Next Mod

Ok, i have all the simple mods....

Air Foil
Tb Bypass
B&M Shift Improver
Cold Air Intake
Flowmaster Exhaust

What should the next thing be. I am assuming i am around 13.8 right now. My buddy sold his Z for a GTP and is upgrading it quickly, i need to keep the edge, what do you guys think for my next mod?

Well you've got intake and exhaust.. the bottle neck would be your your manifolds and cat..

get some LT's and a testpipe

Or some subframe connectors.. they're pretty inexpensive

Well subframe's arent going to give you much of a racing edge, well not as much as some Longtubes anyways. Although subframe connectors are an essential handling mod on our cars.

I just bought some Hooker Longtube headers and a Mufflex Y-pipe. Jet Hot LT's are almost the same with heavier gauge metal and flanges. You can also use the Hooker Y-pipe with either of these. I have been told by wise men the a street car should have longtubes.

Some people dont like Longtubes for various reasons including having the car lowered or the need for power in a certain area of the powerband. Also if you have emissions, depending on how extensive they are, LT's might not be applicable. AS&M/RK Sport/SLP (1 3/4" primaries) and MAC's (1 5/8") primaries are the popular midlength headers. I like of those but would recommend staying away from Edelbrock/BBK and other shortie headers some even with 1 1/2 inch primaries.

Most decent headers will gain you .3 to .7 tenths in the 1/4 mile.

Good Luck and have fun, this is all in speculation that you meant "speed or racing 1/4 kind of edge"

PS If you really need an edge, N2O is always a quick and fast option.

Gears are also a great mod, but gears limit your highway and top speed capability. Gears also lead to needing sticky tires to get traction, and traction depending on your transmission and launching techniques could land you with a new rear end. Sticky tires like drag radials also limit your wet traction somewhat and if you ever drive in snow, forget it! To me, gears are have a domino effect on modding.

He'll need them eventually anyways.

They are not going to limit your top speed all too much. Besides, now often do you go 150-155?

This is true, but I am assuming he is under some kind of budget which would be a large restraint.

Um...150-155...not real often, but where the gears would hurt me would be the highway RPM. Not that I am worried about gas miliage but sometimes I need to drive a long ways. Like yesterday I drove 10 hours. Sure I was at 3k RPM at 90-95, but with 3.73's I'd be taching even higher.

I want gears too, but for this person, I think it might be economically impractible to do gears and drag radials. But hell, I've been wrong a ton of times.

Gears and Header for everyone!

I'm going to be running an advanced induction full port head/cam+ 383 through the stock exhaust and rear-end/gears. Got long tubes though

I agree, when you get into it, and can snowball rather rapidly.

nitrous isn't insane, a mild shot will do wonders for your 1/4 times and its a lot of fun when the car just wants to keep pulling!!

I just got my jethot longtubes on and they're the best mod i've done so far. without em and with more mods than you i went 13.7 on drag radials, so if you havent gotten a baseline at the track yet, i wouldnt be so optimistic to say 13.8 as you stand. in short if you want something that will really wake up your car do longtubes.

Dropped to 20%? Maybe he meant PSI? I hit a 13.9x @ 100.06 with a STOCK '97 Formula and Pep Boys Z-Rated tires.

Definitely can be done. I've got a T-56 BTW.
