New Engine Won't Start

97 Trans Am

Here's what in the car..
355 ci, LE2 heads, Pacesetter LT, basically every upgrade possible to an NA car. It does have an aftermarket alarm and remote start. It is getting fuel pressure when I turn the key but the starter will not turn. The starter is also pretty hot after a few attempts. Do I have a problem with the VATS or is it something else?

If the starter is getting hot I wouldnt think that its a problem with the VATS. It sounds like the starter is getting voltage but doesnt have enough power or juice to turn the motor. Check the starter solenoid first though before you spend all the money on the whole thing.

I can manually jump the solenoid. The starter turns but will not engage the flywheel. When I turn the key the starter won't do anything.

When I turn the key everything lights up on the dash, the fuel pump pressurizes, but the starter doesn't even click.

I figured out that I had it initally wired incorrectly. I had the power wire on the top stud instead of the bottom, but now the starter keeps turning once I connect the battery. What's my problem?

you need a new starter. or new solenoid if you can get it by itself. this happened to my car. 6:30am on a Saturday going out to start my car to go to work and first it didn't start then i shut the key off to try it again and the starter kept turning. i looked around i thought someone just started up a lawn mower or something lol. but yea get a new one.
