If I was you I would stick with the 4L60E. My buddy keeps going through several of them himself but the wrong guy is building them. He could have saved some money and bought one from some one reputable, lol. Your tranny guy seems good though, 3years and SEVERAL low 11 second passes.
The car was ordered as a lightweight...No leather, no power seats, no rear defroster (guess that was part of a deleted option group), no cruise, and a hard top (no Ts)...I took out the back seats/belts and the rear section of carpet is cut out ask...don't ask, it was a stupid decision...but its got everything else...A/C, p/s, p/w all supports etc...I don't want to take anymore weight out...I'll actually be adding a few pounds with the 6 point bar whenever that happens...

I will probably stick with the 4L60E..I'm using a new builder, but the old one was great and the trans lasted for over 3 years and quite a beating with low mid 1.50 60's in a heavy car...I am going to up the stall to 4000 I think...We'll see...For now the output shaft appears to be done along with my ring/pinion...We'll reveal more tomorrow as we find out whats what...

I really like it, and it's not half as bad as people try to make it sound. No beating, no cutting holes, and a trans that will laugh at 500-600 horse stock.

Still very impressive Alan, your car is a testiment to what people can do if they get the whole setup to work well together and dont worry about dyno numbers.

Thanks! Remember I make 375 rwhp...You know how I've always felt about dyno numbers...they are just numbers...Dynos are fine for tuning, tracks are the ultimate "dyno..."

Alan, my point was throwing the latest and "greatest" parets at something is not necessarily the way to build. I have some low 1.6s at 5-600lbs more than your car weighs. I am no engineer but my gut says similar loads.

Output shaft breakage I think would be one of three things, either the R&P went first and took it out, the shifts were too harsh, or just plain old fatigue. I am not a tranny builder either, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

4.10/4.11's rock

I love my 4k, I just don't know how efficient Vigilante's are in that high of the stall range.

I guess it's cheap enough to find out!

I know what you are saying...The trans was a proven combination built by a shop that I trust (who is now retired and in Florida)...The builder who has it now thinks it could just be 3 plus years of running it hard just wore it out, the rear could've gone first...And pulling the tires off the ground at 3600 lbs probably didn't help either...The rear gears could be suspect as they were one of the changes I had made a few months back...It'll be hard to tell what came first, the chicken or the egg, but I have a feeling that my wallet will come first no matter how the story is told...

A powerglide in his car would probably turn it into a high 11 second car....

Is your builder looking around for a better output shaft? If thats the extent of the tranny damage, the bill should not be that high. Like I said Alan, if you were a little closer I could help out. So....you gotta move to Texas. lol Anythig besides the R&P damaged in the diff? I,ve got a good internet source for diff parts. And also, its more likely that the diff took out the tranny. Hope you'er not done for the season. Some good racing weather about now. Good luck with the repair.

Sorry to hear about the failed trans, I suppose it's a good excuse for an upgrade.
3 years is a good run for that kind of abuse though LOL

Bring on the 10s.

I haven't heard anything else today about the extent of the damage.. The builder I'm using now comes highly recommended and is very reasonable...He was gong to work on it today, but I haven't heard anything yet, and I got hit with some kind of flu bug last nght and have been hanging on to the toilet for most of the day anyway...

Billet output shaft he we come...
