New 357 is pinging. Knock sensor pulls timing, how much should I run

New 357
Forged Eagle Crank
Forged H Beams
SRP forged pistons 5cc reliefs, gapped .025/.028 with .003 clearance
Deck height is @ .005
Gasket is .039
Cam is cc306

Using calculators I am about 11.7 Static and 8.7 dynamic compression

I have been playing with my tune ALOT the past week. I am stuck with 91 gas.

At first the thing was pulling 5 degrees (max allowed in tune) and that wasn't enough I could still hear marbles.

I pulled 2 degrees across the board and let it pull up to 10 on its own. I don't really see any retard in 1st or 2nd now, but 3-4 punching it will pull timing, I can't hear pinging. In 5 or 6 it will pull the max and I can hear a very little bit of pinging still.

Only see knock at WOT or 85kPa+

Going to try to go get on a dyno tomorrow morning. I may be super lean.
How low can I go on my total timing without sacrificing major power?

Good question, I ould like to know to. I only have bolt-ons but am tuning mine. I keep getting knock retard at the 4100rpm area (100kpa) I have made at least a dozen tweaks to that table and the only way it oesnt knock is if I set the value to 28. Does that seem really low? Mods are in sig

You are on your stock bottom end?

Pinging should be less common higher up in the rpm range. But I have seen it higher up myself.

28 is probably going to hurt power. I hate to go that low. I have been pulling a degree or two every day or so. I am still in the mid 30's across most of the board, but want more answers.

Trying to get to a dyno tomorrow. (roads are covered in ice)

Go back to STOCK timing and try it. Don't know what stock tables read but a total of 36* across the board is normal for a distributor engine as a starting place.
After going back to stock,if it still rattles take 1/2 a degree out of that block and try it.
Ya may have the fuel messed up too. Go back to stock and leave the fuel alone.

Might be a good idea to get a mail order tune as that set up shouldn't rattle with 92 Octane.

Try a mail order tune first and work from that.

Don't know if ^^ is directed at me or the other guy but I have a tune from pcm4less and am waiting to hear back from Brian about my problems.

Can't get on the Dyno today because there is salt on the roads.
