In need of serious LT4 hotcam kit help
i am going to be able to get this set-up for 350 now i think what do you guys think about that? worth it for the money for now? i mean 330 rwhp is good for me and i can always spray like 75-150 until i have the money for my real motor!
i wouldnt do it because the hotcam kit leaves alot of power on the table.go with a comp cams 306 or even better the gmpp 847,esp if your thinking about a stroker kit the gmpp would be the best choice.get some isky adjustable guide plates, hardened pushrods and some k-motion k-900 springs and some narrow body 1.6 roller rockers, you will be into that for about $550 if you go with some resonably priced imported rockers. ive seen ones on ebay for $159.get the hard part done now, worry about the headers latter.
Don't waste your money and put it in something worth while. I was on a Hotcam kick there for awhile and almost ordered the kit. I already have all the bolt ons (lt's, ORY, exhaust, Cai, etc etc), but instead of ordering the hotcam kit I put the money into my savings and ordered a few suspension parts (got the rest for my birthday).
Here is why I did this. You take the cost of the Hotcam kit and think, "hey, that's not bad." It really isn't a bad price, but after you figure in all the little stuff you will also need it adds up fast. I was looking at a 1000-1200 dollar bill, and that was with me doing all the work! You can take that money and put it in your suspension, or just stow it away for when your ready to do the whole motor. I plan a 383 with a LE3 head LE2 cam kit down the road. Right now I am concentrating on suspension mods and maybe a 12 bolt to back everything up. Then when I am ready for the motor I will already have the gear, rear end, and suspension to back up all the power.
As far as a stroker goes, with a 355 you can make good power but will have to spin the motor higher in the RPM's to make it. With a 383 you can make great power and not have to spin it as high. As my dad always tells me, there is no replacement for displacement.

Don't get me wrong, if I planned on leaving the car as a Daily Driver and was looking for a little more power, the Hotcam would be the way to go. But the car is not the DD and I have bigger plans for it!
