Exclamation Need piston and rod help

Ok guys I am rebuilding my LT1 but I do not wanna go with a 383. I am boring the block .030 over and was wondering what forged pistons and rods you guys would suggest. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!! I am on a tight budget too.

For a tight budget:

1. Keep the stock rods, have them inspected and reconditioned (if needed) and upgrade the rod bolts.
2. SRP makes a nice moderate price piston in a variety of styles. Diamond and Ross are also nice.

Re: Need piston and rod help

i was on a tight budget too, here is what happened approximate for just parts

wiseco pistons with rings -500
scat 4340 forged i beams - 220
bearings, gaskets, studs - ~400
new flywheel, balancer - 150
eagle forged crank - 350/400
cam- 250
stock lt1 chain - 20
lt1 heads (2.080 intake 1.650 exhaust with stainless steel valves) - 900

I reused 'newer' stock lifters, and 95 hardened pushrods... already had springs and rockers... engine cost 900 to assemble, and all the machine work costed 600ish
guy is gunna put it in for like 1000 or so hopefully

Re: Need piston and rod help

Keep the rods upgrade the pistons.
No since of upgrading rods now, looking down the road when and if you go to a 383 you will need to rods than. Pistons I used were some SRP.

Re: Need piston and rod help

Alot of people will reccomend SRPs for bang for the buck, however I was told, for just bout the same price (actually wiseco came out a bit cheaper) I would go with Wiseco like myself... do a search on it, I have posted numerous posts on it myself... both come with rings btw....

other good pistons out there are mohley pistonsI believe C5R uses mohley pistons which is like wiseco maybe .... diamon is good too, but i heard wiseco is something right around JE...

for good prices go here...

www.cnc-motorsports.com

there are also probe pistons which are not that expensive... they have a set of very cheap forged pistons which I would take over hypo. pistons anyday...

Here are some links from another board that I was asking around while looking for pistons

Guess it was 600, not 500 heh

I just bought a wiseco's and ring set for 409 shipped of off ebay from racers outlet. Also check cnc motorsports as allready mentioned. They are on ebay as well and I've had good luck with them.

Re: Need piston and rod help

Are you going FI, nitrous or NA?

if ure going NA, and want to squeze more power i'd go dome

if you are doing FI, then gotta go inverted (or dish)

or if you want just normal pistons, then flat top.... I assume you're going NA, so i'd go with something like 1cc which would make ur compression 11.9-12
or flat top which would make ur compression around 11.1-11.3

I would prefer 11cc dome... that extra compression would be nice...

I'd go with these

wiseco PT001H3 pistons +8cc u'd see around 13 CR

make sure the rod length is 5.7 and stroke is 3.48

obviously ur block will be overbored at the machine shop.... make sure you buy the pistons before u take it to the machine shop for boring, so they can fit them as well....
