Need Oil Pump Information

I have been gathering information about changing out the oil pump, Alot of the threads are a couple years old, and there was mention of bad oil pump castings by Melling.

Is there still bad castings out there?

Which is the best Bolt-In pump, non High volume.....

I found in a thread that this is what I should get:

Mel-10552 Comes with solid oil pump drive shaft. $61.88
Mel-12558 Bolt on 3/4 screen,Gasket,bolts with locktite. $14.95
7.5" for stock pans

Ill be running a Stock Oil Pan, and the engine will be cam swapped.....

i went with the melling select 10554 std volume std pressure, but it does come with a high pressure spring. the regular melling m55 series are a weaker casting and guys have broken them, they come with warnings saying do not use with solid motor mounts. I would just go with the 10554 select, I have excelent oil pressure.

That first part no 10552 is the "select" 10% more volume....You'll want the 10554 as mentioned above. Or just go the the dealer and get the factory pump and a GM "white" high pressure spring.
