water pump gone - replace opti now too?

Ok, my water pump crapped out on me today so it needs to be replaced (it's been leaking coolant from the weep hole for a few weeks now). Should I go ahead and replace the opti while I'm at it, or no? As of now, the opti is working fine. Thanks.

First of all, what year is the car? Well considering they used opti's all the way up til 97 make it at least an 11 year old car, so if it is original, yes change it too. It will be good preventative maintanence.

Well there is your answer. If you can't get in contact with the original owner to find out if the opti is factory, and the budget permits, I would swap it out for a new one. While you are there I would swap out the plugs and wires, it will be much easier. Then you should know that you won't have trouble with that area for a long while.

If you want to take the most economical route, take the opti off, open it up, and inspect it before making the decision.

But me, I'd just replace it. If it turns out in that situation that the old one looks like new, then sell it.

I agree with the others, might as well replace it since you are there anyhow. If the original one looks good, then keep it as a spare, sell it, make a coffee table centerpiece out of it..

My opti went out and I bought a new waterpump to put on it while it was apart. YOu might as well while you are in there. If nothing else its good preventive maintenance,

Jeff
