Need New battery suggestions
i would have to agree that the red top is one of the best out there. my battery just went out and i bought an interstate. i talked to a couple shops around here and they said it is probally not worth the cost of the red tops but they are good batterys. they said these batteries would be good for show or extremely radical vehicles. i saved $50 with the interstate. one shop did tell me this though: don't just go buy a battery from a local autoparts store like napa for example. they said these batteries are made with remanufactured materials. i found out that the interstate is made with all new materials so that is why i went this route. this battery was more than a battery i could get at napa but this is what i was recommended so i got it.
I run diehard batteries in my cars...never had a problem. In Nebraska where I used to live it could get up to -60 with the wind chill, and my car never hesitated in starting up (Diehard weatherhandler, not even their best one) and I've never had a diehard go out on me
Die Hard is the way to go. We have 2 Z-28, 02' Camaro SS F-250, and a Caravan, and they all have Die Hards (except the new SS) They have never had any problems or premature death. They are well worth the money. Install it yourself, I would never trust anyone else to touch my Z.
Go with an Optima Yellow Top. It will never spew acid on your frame. It is impervious to vibration. It does not off-gas. It has enough reserve to keep your car alarm going for several weeks. We left the interiof lights on my 1996 Impala SS the other day all night and some of the day (about 10 hours) and the car started right up. I have used the same battery in my 1994 Z28M6 with highly modified suspension (stiff & relatively harsh with rod-ends, spherical bearings and del-A-lum bushings) with no problem.
unless you have a stereo dont buy a optima yellow top they are designed to be a secound battery for cars with a stereo. if you are gettign a optima get a red top thedy are designed to handle constant starting
The Optima Yellow top batteries are not just deep cycle batteries. They are rated for serious starting too. Yes the yellow tops are more expensive than the red tops, but they give you more peace of mind.
Two years ago, my alternator cut out while driving through a "not so good area of town" I drove the car for about 30 minutes through traffic on the red-top battery alone. The red top is not designed for this, discharged and did not recover. The base load on these cars is alot more than the old days (something like 35 amps continuous for computer, fuel pump, injectors, air pump ect). I made the choice based on the risk of not having my firearm with me (as allowed by my concealed weapons permit). I know it was my fault, but a Yellow top battery would have survived this deep discharge.
