Re: Need a lot of help

Could be running bad because the MAF sensor is on the same circuit.

First, which fuse are you blowing? The one under the hood or the one in the dash(pcm ign)?

In either case you need to use an ohm meter to track down the problem.

Disconnect the positive on the battery, get a digital multimeter, and put it on the ohms setting. Pull the fuse(that is blowing) and put the black lead to chassis ground and the red to left side fuse terminal. Note the reading. Move the red lead to the right side ignition fuse terminal. Note the reading.

You are looking for a reading of 1.2-1.5 ohms or lower. Using ohms law, in order to blow a 10 amp fuse at 12 volts.....

R = E/I
R = 12V/10A
R = 1.2 ohms

When you find that reading, you need to look at that side of the circuit for the problem.

If you are smelling burning wires, do not run it anymore until you can find the problem. The last thing you want is to burn it to the ground.

Use the ohm meter to also check the heating element resistance of the O2's...

Edit: I didn't notice that you had a 96. I can post up those schematics if needed.

That would be great, thanks for the help. I am going to check it out with the ohm meter. It is the fuse under the hood that is blowing; the wire that got hot is the hot wire to the coil. It did start and run for a few seconds, but it was like it was firing wrong; of course it is not going to run correctly with a short in the ignition system and MAF.

Re: Need a lot of help

use a multimeter instead of a test light. you have a short somewhere. either a power wire going to ground or wires crossed not hooked up right somewhere. id start with anything have have had off or changed since it ran good.

Re: Need a lot of help

The 10 amp ignition fuse(on a 1996) is just that...the ignition system. Ignition coil, ignition module, Opti, ignition signals going to PCM, and the crankshaft position sensor. The ground wire getting hot is G111(.8 BLK 450). The manual points to the driver's cylinder head as the mounting spot for it.

Here are schematics. They are huge....10 meg pics, but you can resize them to what you need.

Thanks a lot, so something in the ignition system is the problem. What I am going to do is toss the opti and go with a 24x system. I am going to pull the harness have it checked out, repaired and converted for the lsx PCM; that should fix the wiring, then I am going to fix my little opti problem that keeps coming back to haunt me; 8 coils no more opti sensor no rotor and finally no opti problems. I am also going to check out the body harness, but I am sure that should be fine.

??? Did I miss something? You said that you were blowing the ignition fuse....how can that circuit not be a problem?

Oops it should be,"is the problem"; I don't know how I did that one.
