Need help passing CA SMOG

From: Hell was full so they sent me to NJ
Running a 195*F t'stat on a reverse flow LT1 might not be a good idea. The stock 'stat is 180*F. Increasing the combustion chamber temps increases NOx formation.

The key is still the fact that it failed on all three.

It does have a 160 degree thermostat. Should he consider changing it back to the stock thermostat??

I had no idea that would have an affect on emissions

You said its a high flow cat on that car?? I'm almost positive that no high flow cats will pass smog in Ca (for the most part). Cut it out, bolt up an OEM cat, retry the smog test, and come back with results...

My bad, I thought mine came with a 195 (I have a 180 in it now).

The lower temp (160*F) t'stat will cause a very slight increase in CO and HC, and a small decrease in NOx. Your problem is well beyond "slight".

A good high-flow cat like a random tech usually reduces emissions compared to stock, especially a new high-flow compared to an old OEM.
