Need help figuring out autotap codes
Hey guys, i just recently got an autotap and got the following codes when i ran it. I've been having trouble with the car stalling and bucking while driving it, and its been on a real intermittent basis. I have a feeling its a problem with the MAF sensor but i dont want to go get a new one not knowing that that's the problem. Here's the mose recent codes:

I had some of these codes come up a few weeks ago and then i reset the codes to see what comes up again, and the first time the codes were:

Oh, by the way, when the car stalls or begins bucking, all i have to do is pull over, shut it off and restart and it seems to run fine. Could this be because it is now running in some mode that bypasses the MAF reading?? Im taking this car on vacation and need it to be flawless. Thanks for all the help

Do you have a data scan log? That would tell you a lot about whether these are real problems, or perhaps related to a grounding issue.
It appears you may have an intermittent problem with the Opti/IC module and the MAF. A scan showing the MAF gps readout would tell you if the MAF is operating correctly, and if it has an intermittent problem.
The pink wire that feeds +12V to the MAF seems to have a lot of problems on the 1997 models in particular.
With all those codes, I'm surprised there is no "misfire" code.

The data shows that all those codes set simultaneously. That is not a problem with individual sensors, its a problem with a ground, a wiring harness or the PCM itself.
A data scan log is a log of the sensor data over an extended period of time... maybe as much as 15 minutes. Shows the values frame by frame for all the sensors and the PCM's calculated parameters.
Have you used AutoTap's data logging capabilities, or are you just using it as a trouble code scanner?

I logged a recent drive with it, and i have that file frame by frame. Should i do it at idle for 15 minutes?? will that file be of more use?? what parameters should i be looking at capturing?? Thanks

You need a log of the data with the car operating under a wide variety of conditions.... idle, low loads, wide open throttle, etc. A log of 15 minutes of idling would be pointless.
You want to include, as a minimum:
-RPM
-MPH
-coolant temp
-inlet air temp
-MAP
-barometric pressure
-TPS volts
-TPS %
-IAC counts
-MAF
-long term fuel correction cell #
-long term fuel corrections
-short term fuel corrections
-left O2 sensor (pre-cat only)
-right O2 sensor (pre-cat only)
-injector pulse widths, left and right
-spark advance
-knock retard
You want to include, as a minimum:

This may help. The "cylinder mode misfire index" reading is up at 65,000 at some points and the "Total misfire failures since first fail" is up at 90 or so. What exactly do these readings mean?? Does the computer know that the engine is misfiring?? Could this all be a problem related back to the opti-spark??
