Need help, 95 died and will not start!
Need help, 95 died and will not start!
Need some help on my 95 Camaro as it just up and died on me the other day. I was coming up to a stop sign with the cruise set at 60 in 5th gear and I hit the brake to kick the cruise off and backfired once and just died. So I stuck it into 3rd gear and let out the clutch while it was still rolling and it just started back firing out the exhaust with black smoke so I pushed in the clutch and stopped. I tried starting it and it just turned over and backfired a few more times and it would not start. It turns over and when you let off the key it will just sit and diesel very slowly for a little bit.
Car has a built 383 with around 6000 miles, good wires a couple year old opti with under 2000 miles on it, and a msd coil.
Car ran perfect up until this point for the last 3 years, and this was the first time I drove it since last year, I changed oil on it and put about 300 miles on it over the weekend, it ran great and I proceeded to have terrible tread wear of the rear tires
Last night I checked a few things out on it and plan to test a few more things tonight.
Fuel pressure is good as I have a gauge on the a-pillar and that is fine and holds pressure.
Opti harness has the voltage and ground to the harness.
ECM harness checks out and it has 2 volts ac out of the b pin.
Coil has spark at the terminal and the opti end of the coil wire.
I put a plug in the #1 spark plug wire and it had some spark, may be a little week…not really sure.
Injectors have power and ground at the harness.
Tonight I am going to get a noid light to check for injector pulse and also a scanner to see if there are any codes.
What else should I be checking for? The opti must be sending a signal, but maybe the cap and rotor failed?
Need Help!! I have did a lot of searching but will just break down and ask for help!
Thanks, Dallas

Re: Need help, 95 died and will not start!
Noid light is showing the injectors are firing, did not turn it over far enough on the first try.
Will not start spraying flamible brake clean in the throtle body.
Tech2 has no codes, all the data looks good, opti is giving low res data and it says yes for high res data...
Need help on next move......replace the opti????

Re: Need help, 95 died and will not start!
Need to check more plugs for spark. Remember just putting a good plug on the wire without removing the old plug will not tell you if the plug in the cylinder is firing. There are other methods to test if the plug in the cylinder is firing without removing it from the cylinder.
BTW my experience has shown that 3 dead cylinders will prevent the engine from firing. This has happened 2 times on my pick up and the problem both times was the cap and rotor (corrosion).
If you sprayed enough fluid in the intake, you have proved the problem is not fuel related. If you want to go one step further and remove compression from the list, by all means. However a compression problem is unlikely versus spark.

I did pull one plug and it did have spark, but did not check the rest of them. I cant imagine it losing cylinders in a split second other than something in the opti breaking....but who knows....it seems like the timing is just way off.
Probably just going to pull the fans and water pump and opti tonight and open it up to see what the cap and rotor looks like, I have a spare cap and rotor I can try.
