Need a detailed procedure for converting Opti

I need to know step by step what needs to be done to convert from the 93-94 non-vented, to the 95-97 vented style. I have read a little here and there but have not fully understood it yet.

Thanks

Re: Need a detailed procedure for converting Opti

You will need a new cam, or you will need the dowel pin taken out of the old cam and a new one installed.

You will need a 95 timing cover, vented intake elbow (you can probably drill a hole through yours if you don't want to spend the money), vented opti, vented opti harness and vented opti vacuum tubes.

I actually have most of the stuff, minus the opti for doing this. I will be selling it soon in the for sale section.

Here's a link with pictures.

Or you can get an MSD opti for '93-'94 that's vented

It's also a good excuse to upgrade your cam

...or you can just buy a new MSD opti with the spline drive, that is also vented. Nothing else to change, just add a fitting or two for the vent system.

Unless you get the cover for the 95 style and all the rest used the new MSD opti is really the cheapest route.

You need a different cam, not just a longer dowel pin..
A lot of people seem to forget about the nose drilling for the later opti that the 93-4 cams don't have..

lol

and you will need a vented opti timing set

as you can see, it adds up quickly, it will be easier and probably cheaper to get the MSD opti for the 93-94 cars

Quite a bit more involved than I thought it was. I'm just trying to get this car running right so I can sell it. I'd love to keep it but not enough cash, we all know how it goes. Thanks for all the help.

Accell has a new one out now too...it's only about 235 and you can get it for either the 93, 94-5, or the 95-7 model cars. it's vented, plated, and epoxied so it wont retain water or corrode.

MADWOLF:: love the avatar...it's cool :-P
