N.I.B. Lt1 timing set seems loose!!!??? what the!

what's up with this. I just installed NEW timing parts and they seem loose. the chain and crank sproket were from Norther auto, and the cam sprocket was from a GM dealer. all the parts are new, (and i KNOW i specified that they're for an LT1) but we put the set together and there is a little slack on either side of chain WTF!! anyone got any clues? I paid about $50 for these parts

stock and even the LT4 extreme duty set are known to have some unwanted slack in them..

I opted for the extreme duty set with the cloyes oversized crank sprocket to tighten things up. Should be all good

There is most always a little slack in the chain. It should not be as much as what you took off, though.

My oem chain (w/55k miles) was rather loose when I removed it last weekend and replaced it with the ED timing set. That and a new WP gear really tightened things up.

Joe, I'm not getting any whine, but I've only got about 15 miles since the install. Did you replace the WP gear at the same time?

so... i should just deal with it then? does anyone think that since i bought the chain and one sprocket from one place and then the other sprocket from another place... that maybe they don't match even though they're all supposed to be for the same motor? i dunno what to do. i'm a little nervous to put this on the motor if it is looser than what it's supposed to be i don't want to find out the hard way

Naa I figured I'd leave the old one on, Too much hassle.

As for this chain, If their made for the same motor thy always don't have to be loose, How loose are we talking here. If you pull out on the chain how far will it pull out

My point is that you installed a new gear against an older worn (WP) gear. The meshing of old and new may be the source of the whine? I'm just speculating.

I can't recall how loose the old oem chain was, but the new ED was much tighter. I sorry I can't be of more help.
