i am not sure on this but i think the 265 must of been standard in a caprice and a 350 a option. I bought the motor i built for my car out of a caprice and i checked the casting number on the block not the 327 but the actual part number and it was a 350. So i don't know how they decided which car got what type of engine unless it was a option.
