is my ps pump saying bye?(did search already)

So i went WOT today, and afterwards i noticed that i have this whining sound like a high pitch turbo as rpm's increase, but it isnt noticeable at idle. i popped the hood and it sounds like the altenator or p.s. pump area. It still steers fine but i dont ever recall hearing this sound this loud before. Any opinions? how much is a new pump and how hard is it to install? The car only has 54k miles, and they are mainly highway.
