Caliper Question

Hey,

I have a 95 Z28 that I have replaced the rotors and pads at all 4 corners with the performance Delco stuff (slotted and drilled). The brakes still squeal from the rear of the car, sometimes its quiet other times it will be noisey until I put my foot on the brake pedal. I also have trouble with the ABS light coming on from time to time, but has been out for a while now.

I was wondeing on how to check the rear calipers for proper functioning. My guess is that they're beat, the car has 100K on it now, but I would rather be sure instead of throwing money at it.

Thanks for the help in advance

Cool ZR

You should check that the caliper is sliding on the 2 steel pins properly. If you pull it apart and grease the pins they may work better. Uneven pad wear across the pad would be an indicator that one side is sticking.

Hey Bud M,

Thanks for that info. I did replace the slider kits when I did my brakes last summer b/c they were in poor shape. I can't remember, but I am pretty sure they weren't worn funny. I am going to pull it apart this weekend and have a look and see what up. That noise is driving me nutz, and its worse when the car has buildings or concrete barriers on each side, you hear this terrible squeaking until you press the pedal!!!

I'll have a look and let ya know

Thanks

Cool ZR

Sometimes you can stop squealing brakes by roughing up the face of the rotor. Also, you can buy stuff you can put on the back of the pad where it contacts the caliper piston to dampen the vibrations that cause the noise.

That's worth looking into. I was just wondering if anyone had had that problem before.

I'll pick up a bottle of that orange stuff, any particular make worth getting??

Thanks much appreciated
