Re: my opti died again.

There is no way to completely eliminate the opti. Delteq has a coilpack system that eliminates the cap and rotor but still uses the back half of the opti, which includes the bearing, which will fail eventually guaranteed. Delteq is working on a complete replacement but I read a reliable-sounding post including the advice, "don't hold your breath." You could do the Delteq for about $550. And this system will almost certainly be compatible with their back half replacement setup whenever it comes out, so the Delteq isn't a bad option.
My advice is to get a vented Borg Warner cap and rotor from O'Reilly's (the vented is $100 cheaper and fits the unvented; just plug the vent) for $140 (everywhere else has it for about $170) with a lifetime warranty, and get a refurbished "distributor" (which is the back half of the opti) from Advance for $160, also with a lifetime warranty (lifetime warranty applies at least at the Advance in Pulaski, VA; I assume it's nationwide.) This way you have a lifetime guaranteed optipieceofcrapspark for $300, and of course you'll probably need that guarantee within a couple years.
For someone with a vented opti, the new one is about $220 from that FLA or TX dealership whereas the unvented is $320, so in that case it might be better to get a new one.

EDIT: I should add that about 75% of the optispark failures are due to the cap and rotor, so that's a big plus for the Delteq. And the rotors have been known to blow into 100 pieces if they're spun about 6300 or higher; so that's another plus for the Delteq.

Sounds possibly that your cam dowel pin may not be the correct length putting your Opti in a bind...
