"chirping a gear"?? I hope I never do that, prolly break something. Chirping the tires while shifting gears = sounds cool going down the street especially when daily driving but doesn't mean the car is any faster. My friend test drove a 240sx and got sideways in second but I know any Z can waste it whether they can chirp 2nd or not.

I've heard people mistake a chirp into 3rd and 4th. In reality it was the accessory belt momentarily screeching.

its not a mistake by chirping the tires in 4th, its on pupose, and if you think its the belt sqealing, tell me way traction control comes, and shuts the fuel off. i dont recall a belt tension senor anywhere

out of curiousity - those of you that can't get traction until 2nd gear, w/ bolt on cars..... what surface is your street? concrete or asphalt?

I've found that asphalt streets SUCK as far as traction goes... Visited my family in El Paso about a year ago and I'd floor it in 2nd gear ~ going 40mph... I'd literally leave two black stripes on the street. Here in Dallas, I've got no problem putting the power down on the concrete street. Well, while running at a comparable speed to running on asphalt they don't.

I live in the dallas area as well man. I had eagle gs-c tires in back that were balding and I could scratch 3rd every now and then but I wasnt power shifting. Then I got nitto 555r's and I can still scratch 2nd some but damn these have a lot more traction, unfornunately when launching they have to be warm to make a huge difference, but then I do have a freaking stiff suspension for trying to drag race.

haha, i am the tire god i just got tired of reading goofy replies. my point was that anyone should be able to spin their tires when its wet but thats insane to do so in 4th gear. also, pavement does make a huge difference in traction.

Cool it ace. I was making a general observation, you don't have to get so defensive. And the accessory belt squeak is a known issue.

Still lmao @ the 3-4 chirp in the rain....

Once when my tires were really slick and I was spinning alot, I "rotated" them. Then I took her for a spin.... No more tire spinning, no chirping, no more traction problems. Just a damn cool slight bit of sway back and forth, on the 1-2 shift. Traction is sweet.
