is my fuel pump going?

I changed my fuel filted and the gas just kept draining out, I have changed many fuel filters before and gas does come out, but stops when it empties the line. This time it just kept pouring out the whole time i was changing it.

Does this sound like a problem?

There was an unusual whine from the pump after I reprimed the system and started the car, but it went away (or back to normal it has always been kinda loud) after about an hour of driving.

Any comments would be helpful.

Chris,
Did yours continue to drain alot when you changed your filter or just release the fuel in the lines?

Anyone else have any suggestions or comments? I don't want it to go out unexpected, I guess I will start saving for the pump now!

did you open the gas cap and purge the lines before you disconnected the fuel filter? I didnt when i changed my filter and was told that those were the reasons why the fuel kept comming out.

Did you release the pressure or let the car sit for a while before you changed it?

No I never have loosened the cap when changing a fuel filter, and the rear of the car was up on ramps. I normally just jack it up a little, because they are so easy to change, but this time the gf wanted to see how it was done so I put it up on ramps so she could see everything I was doing.

I guess the combo of both these things just made the car keep pushing the gas out. So I take it from you guys or at least RedWolf that you had this happen before and your pump was actually fine?
