Angry My Fuel Delivery is a Problem

Ok this is really starting to tick me off...

I have had to replace my fuel pump and filter 3 times in the last 1 1/2 years, and last night I was coming home and I could hear this weird sound coming from the back of the car, the sound it usually makes when im running low on gas. So I stopped and went to the rear part of the car, and yep sure enough it was coming from the left exhaust tip area.

Could it be that the filter is just getting clogged, because it stopped halfway to my house and didnt happen again... yet.

And if it is, is there anything i can do to stop it from getting clogged?

Stop running the car so low on gas!!!...The fuel pump uses the fuel to keep itself cool, the more you run it low,you risk burning it out.

When you replaced the pump, did you re-use the plastic "bucket"?

Re: My Fuel Delivery Blows

I dropped the tank and cleaned the gas tank out real good. If you get below a 1/4 tank, you risk picking up the stuff at the bottom of the tank and leave the pump exposed. My car has only 2 gallons or so left once I get to a 1/4 tank. I believe they get hot and use the gas to keep it cool. I have replaced the fuel filter and tried to blow through and it was restricted. I doubt you have clogging that many filters, unless you have a really dirty tank.

Re: My Fuel Delivery Blows

No when i replaced it they used all new parts for everything. Ive only run the gas low twice in 2 years, and that was within the first 2 months when the gauge was broken. When they replaced the pump and filter 3 months ago, they took the tank down and cleaned it out, but like I said it has only been 3 months since they were replaced and never run down passed 1/4 tank. I just remember the sound from when it has happened before.

I was actually starting to believe they just sell dirty gas here haha. Because this isnt the only car of mine its been happening to. My other 00 camaro and jeep... both had theirs replaced twice. And I barely drive those.

Re: My Fuel Delivery Blows

Do you always buy fuel at the same loction in all three vehicles?

The purpose of asking about the plastic bucket was not to find out if you had a new one or a used one. The question was whether they used the bucket at all when they replced the pump? If they don't install the bucket, it may shorten the life of the pump. There's an interesting article on the Racetronix website dealing with that issue.

What brand fuel pumps are they using?

Re: My Fuel Delivery Blows

They used a Delphi fuel pump.

I usually go to chevron, but on occasion I will go to a Smiths or Holiday.

im not sure whether or not they used the bucket or not.

Re: My Fuel Delivery is a Problem

I don't know what brands are good and what ones are bad. My other vehicle went through 3 pumps in 3 years. All were aftermarket and failed way to fast. Went with oem and payed three times the price and still strong after 3 years, but the labor only the one time. Just my opinion. I did the work myself, which is very valuable time I could be doing other things.
