My car hates me
My car hates me
Ahhhhh well today I noticed a nice little puddle of coolant under my car after driving it awhile. It seems to be coming from some magical hole under the water pump not really where it connects to the block. But anyway every time I stop and shut the car off it starts leaking out but not when I am driving or ideling. Scary to know that my OPTI might get a little bath every time I drive and shut off my car I don't think she will last long
.
.
Please Pray for my OPTI people she is 147k miles old she is very fragile.
Another question where should I go to get another ICM is the stock one good do they even make an after market one?

Mine only leaked when it was off. I would think 2 times before trying for the 200k opti unless you replaced it recently. You will certainly be getting coolant now and during the replacement on the opti. Be sure to drain the coolant out of the knock sensor if you do. I paid 80 from the dealer. I heard from a lot of people not to waist your time or money on an aftermarket one.

You should be able to shield the opti pretty well from the coolant. I wrap a plastic garbage bag around the opti whenever I have to take the water pump off. Never had an issue and I've done it about 4 or 5 times. If you can afford a new water pump, go for that. Otherwise try and get one with a warranty.
My car did the same thing once, It wouldn't leak until after I shut it off and went into work. Turns out a return line was rusted out and would dump coolant once the engine was shut off. The mechanic said they had it on the lift running and could never spot a leak until they turned the car off, then a puddle would appear.
I can't quite remember where it was, but I think it was underneath the battery box.

Leaking only after being turned off is more common than you think. On our 1990 Lumina it would only leak after being shutoff at the drain pluyg because it wouldn't seal properly. This is because when you turn off the car, all the pressure you built up is no longer moving, it is then standing pressure at 15 to 18lbs. This sometimes stops leaks from showing up because the coolant passes by too quickly to exit the system and helps to seal up leaks due to the movement. When it stops there is no longer sideways pressure to help seal small leaks. We found that Prestone stop leak did not work and you can try some Bar's Leak fix but make sure your system is clean and flushed or you may end up with a plugged heater core
. not fun. then you have to do it all over again!! If after proper flushing and one or two attempts with stop leak, then maybe you should try a water pump or gasket. Hope this helps!
