Patman, I believe, doesn't care much for this oil. I too live in FL and use this oil. In fact, this is no BS, there is a delivery guy down here who has a 1994 Toyota Tercell (sp?). He has over 600,000 miles on it and it has NOT been rebuilt. I find that fairly amazing myself and damn near unbelievable. He has used Mobil 1 15W50 since he bought the car new. This guy needs to contact Toyota... they'd probably buy the car back from him. I do not know how often he changes the oil but will find out. A couple mechanic buds here in FL have around 300,000 miles on their trucks and use this same oil as well. Seems to work good here in FL at least But, that isn't saying the oil Patman is talking about here isn't better

You can buy this oil from Walmart in Canada and some Canadian Tires too (I believe I mentioned this earlier in the thread)

In very very hot weather you might be able to get away with this thick oil but my gut feeling (and input from a lot of experts I know) tell me that you won't see your best wear numbers with an oil this thick. The best thing to do is get an oil analysis done after running this oil a few thousand miles, to see how your wear numbers are. Based on how good my wear numbers are while using this Castrol, I don't think going thicker will help, and you'll just end up losing MPG and horsepower trying to pump that thick oil through the engine.

Damn. I'm still up. I can never sleep.

I'm running the Mobil-1 5w30 right now, I think next oil change I'm going to use the Castrol. The K&N filter is def worth doing as well?

Most definitely. The K&N oil filter flows extremely well, which I believe is more critical on a hard driven car than trying to find a super fine filter. My oil analysis results tend to prove this too.

keep us updated on the issue of varnish forming in the engine...if this has been fixed I'd love to start going with this oil!

That is a non issue though, as that issue is one case with an older formula of this oil sold in Australia, and probably isn't even the oil, but the engine itself. My oil analyst tells me there is no evidence this oil causes that, he's even running this oil in his own car right now!

this thread reminds me of a newspaper article i read a while back.

a guy had a 95 (i think) chevy 1500, that he bought brand new, and drove 800 miles a day, 5 days a week.

he delivered somekind of newspaper or something.

he put 1 million miles on it, and contacted chevrolet to let them know, if they wanted to use it to advertise. but they didn't care.....

however, he got the oil changed every 4 days or so at a local lube place. and THEY called penzoil, because that's what oil he used. and penzoil bought him a brand new truck, and gave him a large sum of money.

then penzoil took the engine apart to anaylize it, and they said it looked brand new.

of course, that 800 miles a day was ALL highway miles.

so it only had 1 cold start up a day.

take that for what it's worth.....

I've heard about that guy, and he's a complete fool for getting his oil changed so often. He wasted far too much time and money on oil changes. He easily could've tripled or quadrupled his intervals by using synthetic, still gotten the same engine life, but would've spent far less time in the fast lube.

I also question how he found the time to even get his oil changed if he's doing 800 miles per day. Nevermind that, when did he sleep? There is something about that story which just isn't right.

How about 409,000 miles without an oil change, and only light to moderate engine wear?

Before anyone clicks the link, the motor in question is in a Mack E7-400, so it has a durability advantage right out of the gate.

Still, fairly impressive results and a lesson in what quality oil and good filtration can do.
