CT charges $7.50 per liter actually, Walmart also has it but it's $7.12 per liter there. CT often has it on sale though, then it's under $7 there. That's when I usually stock up. (I've currently got 79L of it)

Re: My 6200 mile oil analysis results with German Castrol 0w30

Hey Patman,

Just wanted to let you know I just put this in my Hemi 4x4 truck.
I ordered the oil analysis kit. Have you seen any tests from hot areas like Arizona?
With the dust and sand out here do you think I'll still be ok for 6,000 miles?
Have you heard anything bad about K & N air filters? I had heard that they don't stop as much as others.

I'm curious to see if my mileage changes. I've been using 5w30 valvoline since I bought it new. It has 53k on it now

Thanks
Tom

It's got a HTHS number of 3.6, which is a good number that indicates it doesn't thin down too much when it gets put under high temps and high stress. For comparison, Mobil 1 5w30 and 10w30 have an HTHS value of only 3.0 to 3.1.
Mobil 5w50 has and hths value of 4.22

I was wondering if you know of any tests on this oil.. is it too thick at high temps?

Hi, im currenty running M1 0-w40 with an AC Delco oil filter on my LT1. How does the AC Delco filter compare to like a K&N filter for example..and do you have a recommended oil filter?

Great post Patman! I ran 10w30 Mobil 1 for 100k miles and just recently switched to Royal Purple Full Synthetic 0w40 do to the high miles with a K&N filter. I get great oil pressure. Wondering if the race RP is better than the regular synthetic I'm running now?

Does everyone realize this thread was started nearly 3 years ago, and Patman has not posted here since July 2005?

You guys won't believe ME but I swear its TRUE......

Here goes. I got a 97 LT1. Blew first headgasket in 2006 the gasket around the passages blew and I dumped coolant in my motor. Ran coolant in motor for about 10-25 miles. Brought it to the best mechanic Ernie from Ben's Exon in Poast road in CT, Milford. He told me even though the car barely ran and had no power and I drove it to a point that in min it poored white smoke" coolant" down the road.we changed the Mobil 1 10-30W and put new oil in it then he made me buy two bottles of Copper headgasket sealer and we flushed the coolant so that there was only water in the LT1 made me drive the car with just water and no coolant so it flushed it out and then he poured that stuff in there with the coolant finally and it started up popped then I started again and she purred like a kitten.
<p> THEN a year later the car started to misfire on Cyl#7 and in one month it started backfiring and I brought it to my dealership that I work at and I blew the ring gasket in the clyc #7. Car has 157,000 miles all stock except K&N cold air and SLP loudmouth. I mean this car has the orig rims, filter, rusted exhuast, spark plugs! I bought the car with 101,000 mikes, orig everything! and I bet the **** out of the car with Mobil 1 10-30w!!!!! The oil had coolant in it I mean it was a milk shake. I swear on Mobil 1 when it blew 2 headgaskets!! and still runs till this day knock on wood. I shaved the head and put a new headgasket on the only bad head which was the driver side. Oil pressure is in the middle still if not little past it. Im 24 years old and now I respect the LT1 and the races I won. I change the oil every 2,500 miles and there are some shavings in it. Magnet bolt is what attracts it. I believe its either the Motor or the oil that did its job. The bearings are still good because of the oil I use. Any feedback write to greenlinelandscaping@msn.com

Just for the record, Most Oreilly auto parts have it to, but they dont stock it out front its in the back, just ask a sales person and yes its the actual german stuff, the only reason i know this is because i work there =P

Oil

Well for what it is worth, Another oil story, anyway yes I believe brands/types of oil can and will make a difference, but the main area of concentration is filtering and time intervals that really make the difference. I have torn engines down with only 180,000 miles that were run on plain castrol oil and the internals were extremely clean, no sludge build up at all, in turn I have did the same to engines that were run on another brand and the lifter valley was covered in sludge. My dad who drives app 1000 plus miles a week changes his oil every 3000 miles at his local jiffy lube. he uses what ever is on sale, he put over 500,000 miles on the motor (chevy van) still ran good, no smoke. He got rid of it and bought another chevy van, this one has over 300,000 miles and runs like new. He never runs synthetics, runs the special of the day oil and has had no problems. No I have not torn into the engine to see what it looks like but I am sure you can use it for axle grease.Point being, Yes synthetics are superb to conventional oils but the main thing is, having a good filter and make sure to change it on a regular basis...

I'm planning to run German Castrol with an Amsoil EaO filter, assuming it will fit with my headers. It's a hair longer than the PF454.
