What's wrong with people following a trend if it's working for everyone. I understand your point but your example is weak.

If they don't use their own cap and rotor on their own opti, that would be pretty sad. I think it is a very safe bet that they are. I mean, whose cap and rotor would they use?

Are you assuming they are using someone else's cap painted up with an MSD logo stuck on it?

calling MSD...
[caller] Hello, I am calling to find out if you use your cap and rotor on your Billet Optispark?

The pickup is an advanced optical encoder, a different style of optical pickup than the OEM. This style pickup has proven to be very reliable and stable through extreme rpm and conditions. The rotor is bolted to a drive assembly that is indexed to the shaft and is stabilized through the use of a large ball bearing assembly.
Once installed, you have the ability to adjust the ignition timing – the only distributor that offers timing adjustability! An adjustment screw allows the timing to be tweaked up to +/-5°. The distributor is equipped with a fresh air vent and has an extra thick mounting surface for the cap to eliminate leaks.
The distributor is supplied complete with our heavy duty LT-1 Cap, Rotor and the components required for installation.

I was trying to say they might have made a different cap/rotor for the msd opti.

I know a part of why the whole opti availability was repeatedly pushed back was to fill backorders for the caps and rotor kits, BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SAME PIECES.

No, its just alot of companies make a cheaper version, like the cap and rotor kit for example, and they might make a better cap/rotor for their $500 opti. I was just saying thats a possibility, I wasn't saying they do or not, and i agree chances are they use the same one, but it would be wise to see if they do or not before assuming they do...

Re: MSD Pro Billet LT1 Distributor (Opti)?

I just installed mine and started it up today. Didn't get to run it very long, cause I now have a huge hole in my header where the EGR pipe used to be. Only things I noticed were that the cap didn't line up perfectly with the opti, had to kind of play with the screws to get it right. Second thing was that my stock hose that goes to the air intake was much too small for the connection to the opti. Probably gonna have to get a new hose or an adapter of some kind. I'll let y'all know more after a test drive...
