msd opti
I just submitted an email to msd tech about the issue regarding the catostrophic failures on their opti's. I will be sure to let you all know their response to these clames. My problem is I've only put roughly 20 miles on my $500 opti that I purchased from them 2 years ago and the fact that their is only a 1 year warrenty on the product is outragous! There should have been some sort of recall on the product due to the vast majority of failures on their opti.
I'm at 110k on the stock opti, still running strong. I was considering an MSD with a cam swap but may go with a stock one from thepartsladi. For those who have gone through a few opti's.. Is the MSD cap and rotor worth doing?
No, they never responded to my message. My car has since started dying after it warms up and goes into closed loop. My first guess would be the beautiful msd OPTI!!!! bwaa!!! Me venting. Anyways, I have a log of it if anyone could take a look at it to confirm opti that would be great. I have to let the car cool down for a couple hours and then it fires right back up until it warms up again, repeats process.
I had an MSD cap and rotor on a rebuilt back half... 15 miles and the car died. the whole opti was trashed include my rebuilt back half...
I sent the MSD back under warranty and replaced the back half under warranty.
The problem was the rotor screws back out. If you use the screws that msd sends with the kit they are little allen head machine screws that you cant get very tight. The second time around I used the screws that came off the stock unit and put some loctite blue (High strength stuff!) on them as well and can get them much tighter to hold the rotor. Hopefully when I get the car going again I won't have the problem like the first time.

Some of my concerns are: 1) Will the msd opti be re-usable if the rotor screws walked themself out. 2) Will msd cover this (probably not since my waranty is up) 3) Will simply replacing the cap/rotor ($150) do the trick? Along with new rotor screws and red locktight of course! Again, 10 miles on mine.

2: I highly doubt it
3: Probably
