Moving Knock Sensor

I have block hugger headers on my engine and the passenger side header is right against the knock sensor in the block. Is there another location the sensor can be screwed into or can it be moved slightly to the rear with a bracket without ruining its functionality? If I made a bracket, I was thinking of something pretty substantial like 1/2" bar bolted i to the stock location and threadded to take the knock sensor.

Anyone with experience doing this?

Re: Moving Knock Sensor

You maybe able to move it to the opposite side where the coolant drain plug is for the block. Or just get rid of your knock tables and be done with the sensor.

Something solidly mounted to the block might be ok. Just remember that is not a bolt hole that it is screwed into. It is a tapered pipe threaded hole. You will probably just want to put a pipe plug in it (like the other side has).

Does it matter where on the block it mounts? Does it need to be over a main bearing web or somewhere else to be most effective?

Re: Moving Knock Sensor

Do you have more clearance on the other side? If so use that hole. They will both work just as effective you will just need to extend the wire to reach. My corvette has two sensors one on each side so both holes will work if you can use the other one. THe only problem with moving it to an untested unproven location is you may end up either it never detecting knock or detecting false knock. The only two holes I know the factory uses arethe ones the KS's are normaly located in
