Motor mount time!

Ive got a set up poly mounts from energy suspension, ive had them for a while now, the motor mounts and tranny. I am going or may attempt to do this in my driveway with just a jack, does anyone know how hard this might be? Should i just get stock ones a try to sell these and leave it to a shop? I took the ones to a shop i have now and the guy said they would be way more time then he wanted to get into, i have a really bad sagging motor due to horrid mounts. Any thoughts on this? Please let me know.

Re: Motor mount time!

You can do it but it will probably be a big PITA, esp. with the engine still in the car. (I have never done them on a Camaro...)
Have a friend help, misery loves company.
Stock mounts will be less difficult than the poly mounts.

It can be done in the driveway, but you should have a second person. The “trick” is turning the steering to the proper position so the long, horizontal through-bolt can be pulled out. I helped a buddy maybe 20 years ago, so the detailed steps are “fuzzy”.

I hope when you say you going to do it in the driveway "with just a jack" i hope you dont plan on supporting the car that way.

I lifted my motor up when i installed mine years ago. It was tight but i managed it.

Re: Motor mount time!

You can do it solo. I've done them many times. It's just time consuming. Drill out the clamp rivets. 2 Big flat heads to pry the clamshell apart. Pull out the stock mount, put in the poly. C clamp the clamshell together then zip tie it shut. It's not the best but get a couple 2x4s and lift by the oil pan if you dont have a cherry picker. Give your self 3 to 4 hours and a couple beers. Maybe a pizza to munch on.
