I have about 500 miles on my Moser so its time for me to check the gears, backlash, fluid, etc....

Its funny because all the noise I get is from load and acceleration. Its pretty quiet on decel. This concerns me because I have thought that the whine has been excessive since day one. Now my wheel bearing are chattering when turning. I bet my rear end was setup too tight and its spewing fluid!!!! Thats probably why the bearing are chattering now... ARGH!

Any comments or suggestions?

I have some noise with mine. Nothing I can't live with.

I do have some leaking, but it's from the ultra-redneck chrome cover I have. Gotta get a TA.

I have a different noise I'd like an opinion on. i have a KTRE 12 bolt and it was noisy and I had a local shop reset them and the noise is a lot more acceptable.

However, when making turns the posi clutches bind and grind. I'm told that this is also normal. However, I'd like another opinion.

Do your rears bind on slow turns? Is there an option to quite it down?

What posi are you runnin? The Eaton has an assortment of springs available which vary the amount of preload on the clutches. Lighter clutches will tend to reduce chatter. Of course, if you install lighter springs the posi will not lock up as hard.

BTW: did you use friction modifier when refilling the rear? Omitting it can make the posi noisy and grabby.

Moser set up the gears in mine, and there is a constant whine from it.

I have a Moser 12 bolt 4.11 with the Eaton Posi and 33 spline axles. I bought it used. The gears were initially set up by Moser and it whined fairly loudly, mostly upon acceleration. The rear end also came with a new set of Moser gears so just to be confident in the rear end I had it set up by a guy at a local shop who also happens to be a drag racer.

At any rate the whine greatly decreased. I still have some noise at deceleration but relatively small. I would recommend having someone you trust set up the gears. Everything I've read and the experience that I've had shows that gears set up at the Moser factory seem to be very loud. I don't know if the Moser setup is bad for the gears or not, I only know that it seems to be annoying. Hope this helps.

Never had any problems with binding or grinding when turning corners. I did use 1 and 1/2 bottle of GM posi additive.

Synthetic gear oil, even with the friction modifier, can create the turning noise you are experiencing.

I guess I can try adding some more of the addative. I can live with it, I just want to know that it is"normal".

Thanks guys.
