I just had a shortblock assembled and I noticed there was no gasket maker used on my oil pan gasket. Its a used pan with a new one piece blue gasket.
I already have the engine, tranny assembled and bolted to the k-member. Should I pull the pan and add gasket maker to the corners of the pan or will I be OK.

 

Is the blue gasket a silicone/rubber kind? If so, be careful torqueing the bolts if you use RTV (or equiv). The gasket will have a tendency to bulge out the sides.

Is the used pan in good shape around the sealing surface? If its not true and flat, you might want to use a gasket sealant. Did the gasket manufacturer recommend sealant be used?

 

The pan looked to be in good condition. I'm going to leave it for now. I was told a used pan has a better chance of sealing because it has already been mounted.
