missing at down low rpms!!!!!
missing at down low rpms!!!!!
well it has a miss/hesitation down low after the cam install. i am thinking that the car is just eating spark plugs now. i replaced the fuel filter thinking that was the culprit, but it didnt fix the problem. im thinking that the car needs a MSD 6A to aid in sparking. i have noticed that it is getting harder to start too
the real catch to all this is..... it does this when it first starts up for about 10 min. then it goes away completely.
however, if i am running with open headers.....it does it pretty much all the time and at ALL low Rpms. then if i cap it back up the car runs like total ****. i dont know where to start. im sure the plugs are junk now but i dont know exactly why. i dont want to throw $150 at something that isnt going to fix my probs.
any help is appreciated. dj

Only suggestions of what to check, no real hard answers. check the fuel pressure at idle and after the car is shut off to see if the pressure drops when it's turned off. If it drops off quickly, you may have a leaky injector causing fuel to drip in to the intake and puddle up. Of course there are other reasons the pressure may drop off quickly like a bad check ball in the fuel pump. The pressure at idle chould be around 43 psi, with the pressure regulator disconnected, the pressure should be very high. check that as well. With the engine off, disconnect the vac line on the regulator and be sure it's not wet.
check the EGR to see that it's not sticking. Check the IAC for the same thing.
Last, check the MAF to be sure it's clean, you can clean it with electronic tuner cleaner spray available at radio shack. Sometimes the oil from the cotton filters gets on the filament and causes weird problems.
Hope that helps
