http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...hreadid=131836

Any would be appreciated

Sounds like its not getting spark.... double check your opti harness is plugged in good on both ends, all your ignition coil and ignition module connections also. The opti could have been installed wrong... it is suppose to the splined so it can only go one way but, 93/94's can be forced on in the incorrect position. You would have to take off the water pump to check the opti so you might save that one for last. Might pull a pull and ground it and crank it so to see if its getting spark.

Im getitng spark from the new coil, and modual.

I head VENTED optis can be put on wrong but as i said in the post that in advance tech forum, its keyed one way on both sides so i couldnt mess that up. I did it 3 times to make sure.

Well i'll double chekc that too and that will be saved for last.

Grab a spark tester from Autozone, it's about $10.

Pull a plug wire off the plug, attach it to the tester (it has an end shaped just like a plug tip), ground the other end.

Have someone crank it over for about 5-10 seconds and see if you're getting steady spark from the wire. Be sure to check as many wires as possible.

I'd kill the injectors for this test (fuse), btw.

FYI - I had the EXACT same problem after my cam swap. Did the same stuff, coil was good, opti was installed right, wires good.. same bit of smoke coming out of the intake.. opti was shot

Sounds like the rockers are too tight.

I would say it is probably the opti too. When i put in my new motor it would crank and crank and crank and almost hit but it wouldn't. It ended up being the opti one hole off.

Well what im gonna do is go through the car, check the wires, check the spark AGAIN. Check the sensors, and every possible thing. If it gets to the point where i dunno what it is I'll BUY a opti for ****s and giggles. (but the current one has like 10K on it and never sputter right before i took it off the car).

Thanks for insight

Who put the motor together? Who put on the rockers? If you have spark the opti is not the problem. I think the rockers are too tight, that's why you're getting backfire through the intake.

My vote is timing/opti wrong. Did you make sure the index dots on the cam gear (at 6:00)and crank(at 12:00) gear were lined up when #1 is at TDC(cam dowel at ~ 3 oclock). Then did you rotate the the engine untill both index dots were at 12 oclock and #1 was again at TDC(cam dowel at ~ 9 oclock) and install the opti then. Its easy to make a mistake with this.

I vote for rockers to tight. If NUtek put the motor together then I would assume your cam & crank gear are lined up. The opti will only go one way unless you are forcing it on.

Try to do a READ on the computer and see if it responds. Sometimes it will say it programmed right but the PCM could be corrupted.
Just another thought.

I agree that they most likely did install the gears correctly....but you have to spin the engine up to the compression stroke on #1 before you install the opti.
