Messed up when jumping car!!!!

Tonight I went to jump my car after an opti swap. The battery was dead because of my extensive coolant bleeding with my electric water pump. So I had my brother connect the cables to my camaro and he put them on wrong! He put the negative cable on the positive terminal and grounded the positive cable. As soon as we went to jump the car the grounded cable sparked and the fans turned on and the horns sounded!

Now I cant start the car at all. The lights and electric water pump work etc but when I turn the key I get nothing. The car doesnt try to start at all.

What did I do? Is the computer fried?

Check all your fuses. I know if you hook a battery up incorrectly it will basically destroy the computer so the same probably happens if you jump it wrong too but you should check all the fuses before you start to panic.

All the fuses are fine. Doesnt it sound more like the battery if the starter doesnt even work?

Try hooking up the cables the correct way and jumping it. If it starts then its your battery.

Hard to say what got fried. It could be a number of different things.

There should be some fuseable links in line with the main power not sure where they are. They are in place to protect from such an accident. Check your positive cables and anyplace in the harness it got smokey. Should be close to the starter??

Re: Messed up when jumping car!!!!

We then tried jumping the car the correct way and still got nothing. I just did a search and read that even with a bad PCM the car will still try to fire but will just not run. I get nothing at all.

Being that the fuses are alright whats the best way to systematically check everything over?

Also I forgot to mention that the jumper cables were VERY warm after the screw up...not sure if this is good or bad.

Re: Messed up when jumping car!!!!

Im going to charge the battery to see what happens...

Also my brother and I were talking. This all happened without me ever attempting to start the camaro. The car we were jumping from was the only one started...

Sounds like it good be the starter. You said that your electric water pump and stuff still work so I dunno if it is the battery at all. If it is a manual try pop starting hit, if it starts then its the starter.....
