Melting Cap in 3 opti's...Experts Please Step Inside...

I have had 3 on in under 6000 miles. I am runing a MSD blaster coil and a MSD box for my nitrous. I am going to measure the dowel pin tomorrow to see what measurement I got. What should it be for a vented opti? found nothing in search...

also i hear that maybe the MSD box and blaster coil may be contributing to this...is that correct?

to be more specific..the last cap and rotor I took off was almost melted completely..black and burned. Car wanted to run out of time and everything. When i replace it it will run like a beast for only a short time then I have to install another one.

Is there a issue with these ignition components I should take in consideration? Anything I am over looking? Some other issue with this I haven't thought of..

the car runs really strong then dies..this is really something I have to fix asap..i can't enjoy my car anymore. I am constantly working on this *#@*!&(&^%$#@%^*() thing!

My frustration is getting ready to have me sell the car if i can't find my problem. no need to have a car I can't enjoy..will go with a older carbed big block in a gutted 60 something dinosaur.

You guys have been very helpful in my troubleshooting..this is just a major issue for me and maybe others. Any help is appreciated.

feeling the pain..
Brad

Check your wire's and gap the plugs at .035 to take the load off of the opti.Make sure the wires aren't getting to hot(shielding)
If the plugs are firing there should not be any carbon tracks(black) in the cap but there may be something going on an that's not it?

Never had a problem with the MSD but never run that coil either.

yes, definatly, check your wires and plugs, excessive plug gap and high resistance wires both force the coil to produce higher voltage/amperage then normal

You can read about the dowel pin here (surprised you did not find it with a search).

I have been running a MSD Blaster and 6A for years without an opti problem. I say all the claims of them causing harm are myths.
