Making your own 383 stroker??!!!
SJS said it correctly more or less.
You can use the rods and the pistons (if they are .030). Then you need to get rid of the 3.48 crank and go 3.75. Also need to clearance the block for the bigger crank.

Yea, asking that kind of a question, u DEFINITELY need to do a lot of research.
I'm guessing that u bought just a piston and ring and gasket rebuild kit, not an actually stroker kit. Did it come with a crank? We need A LOT more info before we can help.

Let me know if your serious Brian. I didn't know crap and just threw in my stroker this pass weekend and fired her up yesterday. Like my machinist told me, "80% of building an engine is research and planning." I did so much research I have 2 binders full of information from guys here and elsewhere. I call them my bibles. I will tell you onething though. You will have to set your budget at least 2k more than you expect. Lots of added costs when moving up to a stroker. Upgrading and stuff.
You're not telling us enough. Seems like your just entertaining the idea.

What im basically asking is to compare parts of a full engine rebuild kit minus crank to a stroker kit. What parts are different between the two sets? I know the crank is, my 350 is bored .030 over and im sure the pistons are different also? So the answer im looking for is what other parts would i have to buy to switch to a 383 94' LT1? Remember i just bought a FULL engine rebuild kit "STOCK" for my 350ci LT1. Thanx for all replies!

Yes you can use the rods and pistons for a 383 but depending on the piston the skirts might have to be machined to clear the 3.75 stroke crank. Some clear some don't.

You can use 350 rods, but your pistons have to be made for a 383, or vice-versa.... Like has been said said -- the pistons would pop up past the deck and smash into your heads. Something has to give!

So i should be able to use everything im my rebuild kit except the pistion....(i was looking into forged anyways). And i would need to buy the 383 crank.....Right? The key component that makes it a 383 "stroker" is the stroke of the crank. Correct me if im wrong!
Save yourself a headache if your going to build a 383 and return that rebuild kit. Buy a 'complete' stroker kit. You really need to set some goals for yourself. Is this car going to be a daily driver? What HP levels are you pushing for? Staying N/A or are you going to use Nitrous/Supercharger/Turbo ? If you go stay N/A you can settle for cheaper internals to keep the cost down but if your going nitrous/boost you will want to get beefier internals so your motor lasts. Also, what kind of RPM do you want to turn? If your going over say 500HP goal you might want to look into some splayed 4 bolt mains too. So do this, find out your goals, return rebuild kit if your going with a 383 or 396, then reasearch what you will need. Do it once, do it right!
