Main bearing& Cam

I was told that as soon as you do heads and/or cam on lt1's that you tweak the motor or something and wreak the main bearings?
I have 160,000 miles and thinking about a new cam?

here ya go. It's always a risk modifying a motor, it can be done successfully though. I don't think i'd be cracking open a 160k mi motor, but thats just one opinion.

96chardedramair: Did you just lose your motor since I talked with you last?? omg!!

I don't know why this is LT1 specific. Block is not much different from older chevy blocks as far as the stated problem goes. IMO, bearing failure is most likely caused by not enough oil at startup. I think prelubing the engine is important if it has sat for some time. Also keeping the block and bearings lubed if they are to sit with WD-40 or similar to prevent rust. Other than that, dirty installs run second, crap on the oil screen, and crap that marks up the bearings. And not to mention, dropping a cam lob on one during removal.

I wouldn't touch a motor with 160k on the odometer. Save yourself the time and money and rebuild it before sticking a cam in there.

Man, sorry to hear that. That suxs @ss just hearing that happen to someone. Yeah, I would cut the filter and check for metal in the gauze padding too. May want to put in some heavy oil, like 20w-50 and see if you get some pressure back.
