Unhappy Magnaflow Catalytic Converter 93444?

Hi.

I bought a Magnaflow Catalytic Converter 93444 for my Z28 1994.

Name: lfEyj2a.jpg
Views: 40
Size: 20.0 KB

But received this :

Name: pCnmzws.jpg
Views: 38
Size: 106.9 KB

The seller claims it's the correct one, but it has only one 02 and it don't look the same as on the magnaflow picture.

Any advice?

Re: Magnaflow Catalytic Converter 93444?

The bottom photo is just the Y-pipe. And it's identical to the Y-pipe in the top photo, except there is a weld instead of a band clamp. The top photo includes the actual catalytic converter, the bottom photo does not.

The Magnaflow website (see link below) appears to show only an O2 sensor on the driver side connection, which I don't think is correct for your car. If I recall correctly (removed stock exhaust manifolds from my 94 16 years ago) the driver side O2 sensor is in the cast iron exhaust manifold. The Y-pipe should have a sensor on the passenger side branch. Is that where it is on the Y-pipe you received?

Better to have the one with the weld and not the clamp (IMHO), as long as it is bent correctly. I think they changed the design along the way. Either one should work.

Fred, the O2 bung is in the right place. The DS gets the bung and the PS has the O2 in the manifold. I bought this very one for my 95 about a year and a half ago. Mine has the clamp. Took a little massaging to get it all leak free.

OK.... I was thinking they put the sensor in the driver side manifold, in anticipation of going to the dual-cat setup with the driver side cat right up against the manifold flange. Like I said, headers went in years ago.... and old age is taking it's toll on my memory

Thank you for your good advice and knowledge.

It turned out to be the correct y-pipe but the welding between right and left was not so good.
Had to cut it open and weld it when it was connected to the manifolds to get
a good fit.

And as you both said, one of O2 is in the right manifold.

Thanks again

That could be why they went to the split pipe with clamp. You might have gotten one that was old stock.
