Question 1994 LT1 in a 1971 Camaro?

Hello, I am not sure where to go with this question but I though asking it here might be a good place to start. If it is not then I understand if I get flamed or the topic gets moved.

Here is my question, I have an opportunity to put an LT1 out of a 1994 Z28 into my 1971 Camaro. I just recently put a 700R4 in the 1971 and I was curious if an LT1 is compatible with the 700R4. I know they will bolt up but what about wiring, engine computer, and the 700R4 TV cable? I know an LT1 came with 4L60E from the factory, what do I do about that concerning wiring and cables? How does this all work? Will it?

I also can get a '95 LT1 too, would it be any worse because of OBDII?

Thank You anyone that can help, and I apologize again if I am posting in the wrong place.

A 95 engine would still be obd1.

For the most part everything should bolt up.

93 F-bodies originally came equipped with 700R4's from the factory, so there aren't any compatibility problems in that respect. You'll have to get the throttle cable bracket from a 93 intake manifold to swap with the one on the 94 engine. The PCM doesn't NEED input from a 4L60E in order to function, and lack of one won't have any effect on the engine's ability to run.

As far as whether to go with a 94 or 95 engine, I'd go with the 95 simply due to them having the vented version of the optispark. Also, 95's were still OBDI.

Make that two votes for the 95. My non-vented sucks in humidity every once and awhile. Of course I am too lazy to RTV silicone it, but that is in the works.

That is interesting that you say the 1995 cars were still OBDI, I was under the impression that they were OBDII.

95s have an OBD-II connector ...but they are still OBD-I. They all had to go OBD-II by '96...for some reason they went ahead adn threw the new OBD-II style connection in there for '95 but left the computer as OBD-I. I don't remember the whole story on it.

You would need the throttle cable bracket and a throttle body from a 92-93 LT1 to use the 700R4 with the 94-95 LT1. You might want to swap the computer to a 93 Speed density setup as well.

why, if he did, he would need the 93 harness as well(PCM connectors are different)

if you get the 92/93 throttle body, to use it with the 95 harness, you will need to swap the IAC housing(screwwed to bottom of T/B), and you need the T/V cable for a 92(vette) or 93(vette/camaro)

I am running a 94 LT1 in a 90 K5 Blazer, with a 4x4 700R4 behind it, if you need more specific info, PM me

Cali 95 cars have OBD-2. I believe they are the ones with dual cats.

this is getting old

I have NEVER seen proof of a OBD2 95 f-body

know why?, there is only one computer out there for a 95 LT1, and it is the same one as a 94, which is OBD1, 96+ were the only OBD2 f-bodys

There are multiple bosses on the LT1 block for mounts. I thought the old SBC triangle pattern was still there and could be used. In that case, you would just use SBC mounts for the 71. Am I wrong?

Once again, you're not wrong, Shoe. I bolted an LT1 into my '69 using the traditional mounts for a small block. It bolted in without issues.
