MAC or Hooker LT Headers???
MAC or Hooker LT Headers???
Hey guys,
Im really stuck i have done allot of reading about both headers, (MAC midlengths, and Hooker LTs) and i cannot decide which ones i want to get. I would be running with an ORY and getting the ceramic coating... so the price difference is only like $100. My current mods are listed below, but I would some day like to get LT4 hotcam/heads. I plan on doing the work myself so the MACs would sure be easier, and the clearence would be better, but with 1 5/8'' primaries they cant flow as well as 1 3/4'' hooker. I guess my question is, would i notice a difference with my just bolt on car now, or would it be about the same, and when i do the heads/cam will i regret not getting the LTs the first time?
Any advice is welcome!!! Thanks

I would say go for the long tubes. They'll give you a few more hp right now, but you'll be really happy when you install the hotcam and heads.
Long tubes are more than $100 more than MAC headers, don't forget you have to get a y-pipe also and O2 extensions.

I say you will be happy either way, but I would also say get the LTs. I am running MAC shorties right now and I think they are good for the money but I am also looking into to replacing them with LTs in the near future.
You will definitely notice a difference in power no matter what you go with.

If you decide on the Hooker LTs, I'd recommend you buy the Jet-Hot replicas of the Hooker LTs. They have thicker tubing and a thicker flange and also cost less than the Hooker brand. That's what I did and I'm very happy with their quality. Other guys on this board would vouch for this too.
As far as I,m concerned, if you don,t have to pass emissions then its no contest,
LONG TUBES.
I can really feel the difference on the big end.
I am just waiting for some cool weather so I can justify it with some good track times, its been so hot lately its useless to go to the track.

Actually I'm going to go against the stream here and suggest you get the MACs. Why, they bolt up a helluva lot easier than the Jet-Hots and theres no worrying about moving the cat, or clearing your crossmember (which i had to basically use a hammer on my collector to do). Get the MACs, overall it won't be a huge differance, and if you're not careful you could end up blowing a lot more money on LTs.
I'm not saying that long tubes are great, but I am currently running the MAC shorties, and ran the times in the sig.
I would love to install a set of longtubes and see how much of an increase there is, but funds this year don't permit it. Maybe next year.
