LT4KM where can i get this and how do i instal it?

Ok i'm wondering what cars this comes from??? (the LT4KM that is) so i can call around junkyards to see if they have one. And also if i call a dealership to get the part what do i ask for??

The second part of my question is how hard is the install? I have a mechanic that does pretty cheap labour for me, would it be better to give to him or is it easy for me to do?

I have a catback exhaust, although i havent scanned for false knock (no scanner here) i'm hoping this will improve my top end a bit since right now it is very sluggish.

gm parts direct
about $35

pn: 16214681

it takes about 10 minutes to replace, just pull out the ecm unit from under the hood, remove two small torx screws and a metal plate, pull out the module, put in the new one and replace the plate and ecm...done...no mechanic needed...least i hope not

I really doubt you need one with just a catback. Most people only get one after getting mods such as headers, rr's or cam and some will say it's not even necessary then.
Here is a guide if you have any other questions.

high rpm loss is more than likely something to do with the coil/coil wire or else a fuel supply problem..

spend the $35 on a msd coil from summit and check your coil wire...

It won't hurt anything to install one but I doubt you will see any difference in performance with it. They are only supposed to help if you are getting false knock in the engine, I don't think the catback would be causing any.

93's don't have a Knock Module, the LT4 did not come out until 1996 in the Corvette Grand Sport. An LT4 Knock Module will not work in your car. OBDI? OBD2? to different PCMs.

Doh!!! I didn't even notice he was a 93. You don't even have a PCM so no, there is no need (or way) to add an LT4KM

You are confusing the knock module with the knock sensor. All LT1's have a knock sensor. Its mounted on the passenger side of the block, in the block drain hole. It "hears" knock, sends the signal to your ECM, and the ECM retards the timing. Same for all LT1's. If you use 87 octane, you WILL get knock retard.

The difference between the 93'a and all other LT1's is the fact it does not have a replaceable knock module. That is a small "filter" plugged into the PCM housing, that filters out the noise that was generated by the valve train (roller rockers) in the 96 Corvette LT4 engine.

i think they still have a knock sensor, but it's handled by the computer differently...

you'll have to contact someone a bit more knowledgeable than i on the 93 and obd1 computers..

i'd pm Shoebox with your problems/questions...he's a smart guy
