Thumbs up LT4 Starter is sweet!!

I just got one of these. My starter has been laboring for quite awhile now. So I decided to get the LT4 starter. Lots of starting torque. Cool sound. However the starter would not fit with my FLP's because of the location of the solinoid was causing a clearence issue with the headers.. However thanks to the great talents of my friends over at www.phpinc.biz , they were able to modify the starter to clear the FLP primary!! Thanks John and Chris...!

If your LT1 starter is getting tired I strongly recomend one of these...
Just thought I'd share!!

What do you mean cool sound? And does it start the car up quite a bit faster?

Also, where did you get it and how much?

Cool sound in it sounding more torquey/racey than the stock one. Also it spins the motor over real easy now!! I got it from Jason Cromer for around $175ish shipped....

It is smaller but honestly by holding it I really couldn't feel the difference in Wt.

My Pep boys starter, is starting to suck more than normal lately. How hard is it to put one in yourself?

cakewalk, if you can install a cold air induction or change your oil, you can install a starter (2 bolts and unhooking a couple wire connections and reversing the process)! just unhook the battery so it dosent accidentally crank while in your hand (that could get ugly quick)

fyi, i ordered my LT4 starter from Dal Slabaugh about a year ago for $164 shipped
its a tad bit smaller then stock but i too couldnt tell any difference in weight when holding them in each hand

EDIT: oh and it does make a cooler noise when cranking

It has reduction gear and can use a smaller electric motor due to the gearing advantage.. I believe it is a pound or 2 lighter than the LT1 starter..
And you can get a new one, as opposed to only reconditioned LT1 starters are available..
