Re: LT4 Starter

I use a CVR Pro-Torque starter that was $150 from JEGs (plus their 'handling' charge). High torque, gear reduction, Denso motor, and can be rotated into several different positions to help clear headers, keep it away from the heat, etc. Has worked for 5 years, compared to the stock LT1 starter.... had two of them fail, probably from header heat.

I haven't seen the CVR starters listed in the JEGs catalog for a couple years, but it looks like they may be selling it as the JEG's "Prostart'r" for $139.

But you are right about the 1996 Corvette Grand Sport .
And I believe 100 SLP camaro's got the LT4 too.

Chris.
Well I'm pretty sure about this.
But let me see if I can find a part's web page that says the 1998 corvette has the LT4 for that year.

Chris.

Opps
I correct my self it is the 1996 Corvette Grand Sport that has the LT4.
Not the 1998 corvette .
Sorry I knew it was one year off my 1997 Z28.

Chris.

Re: LT4 Starter

Injuneer: Would the "555-10001" be the one that'll work and/or that you have from Jegs? Any idea if it's better than the LT4 starter?

Re: LT4 Starter

That part number, and the top picture in the catalog listing is IDENTICAL to my CVR (I know positively, because I had the starter out this morning while installing #6 spark plug ).

I never had an LT4 starter, so I have no idea how they compare. I just know my stroker was very hard to start when it was first installed. The shop told me there was no reason for any added drag from the engine, since they had checked the required rotational torque as part of the build. I put the CVR in, and it was different as night and day.... one touch of the starter and the thing fires instantly. With the factory starter, it was pulling so much power it was affecting the injectors and ECU, making it hard to start.

Sounds cool too.....

[EDIT] One other thing I thought of.... I've seen a post where someone was concerned that the LT4 nose did not fill up the opening in the stock dust shield. I have no idea how the one I have would fit with the dust shield, because as you can see from the picture, I don't have a dust shield.... there isn't one for a JW UltraBell.
