LT4 KM + Rich =Bad?

Here is my Problem

I am running really rich. I mean to the point flames are busting when it back fires. I am going to get it tuned Sat. I have a fuel pressure regulator here that I am gonna install and a gauge that shows my air/fuel ratio. I would like install an LT4 KM on my car before I get it tunned. If I install one won't it advance the timing and because of the excess fuel cause detonation?

The LT4 knock module doesn't advance timing, it helps to prevent the timing from be retarded due to false knock. The knock sensor acts like a microphone and listens to the engine for predetonation or "knock", when it hears knock it tells the PCM to back-off on the timing to save your engine. The LT4 knock module is a "better filter" than the LT1 knock module, in that it helps the microphone distinguish between true knock and false knock (caused by RR's or headers).

If your car is running really rich, it sounds like your O2 sensors are bad or your fuel pressure regulatory took a dump. An AFR gauge is a waste of money in my opinion; they run off the stock O2 sensors that are supposed to bounce back and forth from rich to lean 10 times a second. The only accurate way to check AFR is with a wideband sensor and that's for WOT tuning. Your O2 sensors take care of AFR for part throttle driving.

The reason It is running rich is because I got pcmforless set for heads that I never got put on ( still have stock)

I know what a LT4 KM does and how it works

My question is ....If my timing is corrected to what it should be will me running so rich cause detanation.

O2 sensors are fine

"Running rich" doesn't cause detonation. It's running lean that promotes detonation. Running rich significantly reduces the tendancy to detonate.

What do you mean by "If my timing is corrected..."? Do you have a current high knock retard, that you think will disappear if you install the LT4 KM, thereby giving you more timing advance? If the LT4 KM makes it disappear, it was false knock, won't hurt you. It the retard is due to true knock, the LT4 KM isn't going to "correct" anything, won't hurt you.

Not really sure what your question is. Appears there is more here than you are telling us.
