optispark is the sh**, mine has 144k still going strong! and all the ls1 i drove feel so much slower than lt1, i love lt1 torque, i like the fact the lt1 takes a little more to make it fast where anyone can make an ls1 fast, you can find anything for an ls1, ILL TAKE A LT1 ANY DAY OVER A LS1,

Anyone who has modded and owned one of each would always choose LS1.

I have owned 4 LT1's and 2 LS1's. Now I only have an LT1 as I just sold my 99. So no one can comment that this is a biased opinion. This is souly based on facts.

I bought my 99 M6 and took it to the track and busted out a 13.2@108 with a 2.2 sixty and slipping stock clutch. I then put a mild cam, headers and 3:73's in it had a mail order tune and went to the track only to find my car was averaging a 118MPH trap speed and occasionally trapping 120 while running 11's. And this was with moderate 1.78 for a best 60 ft time due to the fact the ten bolt was not up to par for a nasty launch.
Total amount I spend modding my LS1 was
280:headers
250:catback
270:clutch
175:cam
100:springs
250:gears
250:tune
Not alot to run 11's consistantly.
Try getting an LT1 to trap 120 NA at 3500lbs race weightwith less then 2k in it. So dont buy the " COst more to mod" thing youll hear often.

I love my LT1 but having owned more then one of both I refuse to be in denial wich makes people look less intelligent for denying something so obvious.
Get an LS1 unless you find a fantastic deal on an LT1.

You have to do twice as much to make a lt1 run with a ls1 mod for mod!
Why the hell did you bump this thread?

PS, you're high 11's aren't that impressive. I went 12.0 with just a cam in my automatic LT1 with ~330 rwhp, learn how to drive.

Whats this 1998/99? Not anymore there not...LS1 is much faster...better then the LT1 in just about every aspect.

Yes they are. Doesn't mean they aren't more money to do up right. With that said, I'll just keep my LT1, as I have way to much money tied up in it that I will never get back. Plus the fact, I never cared for the look of the LS1s.

The engines might be great, but there is something about the look of the latter year Camaros that I really dislike.

Maybe it's because I am originally from Lansing, but I too have issues with the stying of the 98+ cars. I actually would not have bought a camaro (I have 97SS) if I had to choose 98+. Looks like a chyrsler product to me.

No flame. Everybody has different tastes---

I prefer the look of the LT1 camaro as well. THey are gorgous cars that look mean as hell with a cowl hood!

way to pay the absolute lowest amount for all your parts! I think statistically you are the outlier in the situation. Granted what you have done is damn impressive from a cost and performance standpoint, but you should be in the lowest 1% for price paid for performance. Those look like 5.0 stang prices to be honest. So what I am getting it as if you are new to the game, don't be discourage by this guy, because nine times out of ten you will not be able to find prices like that if you are an LT1 guy. The LT1 is still the cheaper relative to the LS1 in terms of total cost for car and parts.

Still a valid example of what can be done and I give props for that.

I am currently building an LT1. So far I have a 355 shortblock with forged pistons and rods with eagle crank and I got to tell ya it cost about the same. Actually you can get LS1 heads cheaper then good LT1 heads and you dont have to buy RR's or an Opti.
After the block build, heads and cam, I will be amazed if it is as fast as my cam only LS1.

Like I said If you are starting from scratch buy an LS1. If you already own an LT1 keep it and mod it. Its that simple.

Keep the LT1, but understand the superiority of the LSx.

No one can ever persuade me that the LT1 is better.

It seems that people fear the ls1 way more than the lt1. They're nice engines and i think they have a stronger aftermarket, but I still prefer my lt1. I love being underestimated.
