I know GM sells them in the kit but most serious guys on this board will tell you to get another set. I would recommend calling Cmotorsports.com and getting their "618" spring. Good price and they are great to deal with. That's the spring I'm using on my new heads...unlike the LT4 spring it is a dual spring.

I don't think I'm gonna rev the motor much more than stock, and at this point probably have to keep the stock redline because I don't have a tune.
When do people have problems with the LT4 springs? Is it when they rev high or do the springs just wear out quicker?
I can't say I've heard of the LT4 spring failing, but just based on its specs it is barely adequate for the Hotcam. You have to realize they were designed for the stock LT4 cam which actually has less lift than the stock LT1 cam, but with 1.6 rockers was in the .470 range.
The hotcam puts the LT4 spring really close to coil bind. I don't know about durability but I don't think you'd want to take those springs over 6000 rpm on a regular basis, which isn't a really good thing because you're going to want to go to 5800 or so to make your power with the hotcam.
They will probably be fine, but if you have the extra cash and time I think it would be wise to step up to a better spring.

I didnt read all 5 pages of this
but would rather get the LS1 over the LT1 faster stock... easy to mod
someone said they were hard to work on.. i say thats wrong... putting longtube headers on friends ls1 was alot easer then putting on my lt1... hell to put a cam in you dont even have to pull the intake

I would have about $4500 if i got 50 cents for every post... about 12k if lounge ones counted
This thread, at least what I read, is ridiculous. The LS1 is the better engine, period. If it's not reliable at very high power levels why is there an LS1 in the 8's, but no LT1's? Better heads, better ignition, 6 bolt-mains, lighter, 50-70 more HP stock, etc....
I love these discussions... okay let me just put it simple for all you people that don't get it... Take whatever you have, make it faster than anything else, that way you can talk **** about either engine!!! Simple as that.
Straight up, LS1 vs LT1 with no other variables LS1 takes it in 85% of categories. If you start bringing in cost etc., it's a whole different ballgame. It them comes down to who can twerk the best deals, who can drive the faster times, and who's car is set up better... but engine vs. engine, it's LS1. I love my LT1 though, and when I'm stroked and blown (blown already done) in the future I will love it even more

, what happened, I have an UNSTOPPABLE LS1!!!! Just kiddin...

I've owned two LT1s (95 TA, 95 Formula) and an LS1 (98 Formula) and they each have their good and bad. Sure the LS1 has oil consumption issues, piston slap issues, but the LT1 also has water pump issues, optispark and intake leak. Choose your poison. I believe the LT1 probably has a better chance of going 200k+ than the LS1, but then again the LS1 hasn't been out long enough to prove that either way, so it's just a hunch on my part. I will say that there is a guy with a 99C5 who has 283k and counting on his LS1! (as you can tell, he does a lot of highway driving though)
I miss the raw top end power my LS1 had (it ran 12.68 at 110.6 with just 4.10s, BFG DRs, cutout, MTI lid, ported MAF, free mods and HPP3) but I absolutely love the low end torque/throttle response of my LT1, plus the sound is so much better (IMHO)
I've got one of the quicker LT1s, so for me it doesn't make much sense to trade back to an LS1 right now, since it would cost me thousands of dollars, but yet I'm only a set of headers away from beating most stock LS1s in the quarter mile right now. On the street I can pull an LS1 by a car length right off the line (since my car is super easy to launch) and most won't catch and pass me unless we ran a full quarter mile race.
My ultimate long term goal is to get a C5 though, but that's at least 5 years away though, if not 10. Until then I'm going to enjoy my LT1 a lot (although I will most likely repaint it and put on a 98+ style front end)
