LT1 Slight stumble/and stalling problem--any ideas??
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been recently experianceing a weird problem. One day last week I parked at the parts store and when I came out the car started fine, then when I was backing out it stalled. It cranked a couple times then started. Almost sounded like it had overheated or something, but it definately was not. Then at the next light as I accelerated away it stalled again and took a bit more to start this time. I drove it home and opened the hood to find nothing strange or out of place. Later that day I drove it about 50 miles and toward the end of the drive it stalled pulling onto a side street. It cranked over a few times then started up. No problems for about 2 weeks except for some very LIGHT stumbling on steady speed cruising or light acceleration. Very slight and no-one riding with me even notices. Then Saturday after a 30 mile drive I stopped to get gas. No problems (except the slight stumble) til afterward. I stopped at a light and it stalled. Fired right back up like nothing was wrong. I continued home (about 15 more miles) without any problems. Then this morning I start it up in the garage and it stalls after about 10 seconds and is hard to restart. Finally does and then stalls again. Get it reluctantly started and it drove fine all the way to work except the very occasional very slight stumble. I am not losing or lacking any power because I ran my best times after the first episodes.
Here is what I know--I have a Walbro intank 255 fuel pump and it is kicking on, no problem. I have another inline fuel pump that is also kicking on fine and producing plenty of fuel pressure. I recently had the whole front of the motor apart to replace all the seals and gaskets as well as the intake and oil pan gasket.
Any ideas?? I am afraid it is going to do it once and not restart. I am sure it will be raining and I will be far from home when it happens too.

EGR problem. At a time when the car is operating fine, disconnect the vac line and plug it. See if your problem is gone.
By the way, why on god's green earth would you put 2 fuel pumps on? Guess what happens if the second one pulls more than the first one puts out? Do a straight through with AN fittings and ditch the one the in the tank. Be sure you have an active cut out and use a good filter before the pump.

I dont have an EGR on the car and it has been programmed out of the system so that is not it. I was almost thinking optijunk too but why is it so intermitant? Also if the opti was going bad wouldn't the ignition break down on hard acceleration or under load? It does not stumble at all at WOT and quite honestly is running better than it ever did other than these little thing. There is no SES light either that might be associated with a missfire and the stumble does not really act like a misfire either. I am reading 41psi fuel pressure on the fuel rail, the TB and IAC are clean and I am thinking a vacuum leak would not cause such an intermittant problem. I can drive 200 miles between problems. I also went through several tanks of gas since this began. The plugs and wires are new and not touching the headers
Oh yeah, the inline fuel pump was for the NOS and came with the NOS nitrous kit. I kept it after removing the NOS only because the Junk Walbro 255 kept bleeding down. I think it is just a supplimental pump anyway.
NEW DEVELOPEMENTS THOUGH!!
On the way home after about 25 miles or so it began stalling, but would restart because of the momentum of the car and all. Then when I was down shifting for a toll plaza it popped like a shotgun out the exhaust and stalled. I drifted to a stop paid my toll and was trying to restart it. The ****ing thing started backwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had thought that the very first time it did this that it may have done this but was not sure. This time in 1st gear I went backwards. So I shut it off right away and started it back up and it started correctly but with a new rattle in the top end and a pretty severe lack of power. After a few miles it began running ok but now I have a bad header leak.
Now Im thinking ignition related, what do you guys think now??
