Lt1 Rebuild.
Lt1 Rebuild.
I am looking to get my 350 rebuilt with all forged internals and a steel crank. I have called a couple local shops here in town and they quoted anywhere from 3500-6k just for the machine work/bottom end rebuild. I have been looking online for quite a while and I was only able to find APE suggested here for rebuilds. I was wondering if there was any other companies here that sell rebuild forged motors or will rebuild my motor. I want to make sure they are a reputable company.
I am looking to go to a 355. I am going to have the head/cam work done by Lloyd, however I would like to take the engine out and get everything sent off around the same time so I can put it all together around the same time.
If this is in the incorrect forum please move.
Thanks!

All machine work
Balancing
Eagle ESP Cast crank, 3.48 stroke
Eagle ESP Forged 4340 H-Beam rods, 5.7"
Diamond Ultra-Lite pistons, 11.0 on stock head, 11.7 on mine
all assembly, including a new oil pump, pump pickup and drive, oil pan gasket, bearings, ect. Pretty much a turn key shortblock.
It looks like their prices may have gone down a tad too. Great group of guys to deal with!
Re: Lt1 Rebuild.
Thanks for the replies. All of those sites require a core block which isnt going to suite my needs or budget because I live in Alaska. So shipping would be a killer. Has to be air freighted up here.
I am looking for someone who would sell me a block, but I wouldnt need to give them a core.
I am also looking at a Scat 9000 Crank.
Perhaps It would be cheaper if I purchased the rotating assembly that I wanted myself and then had the machine work done and had them assemble the bottom end. I could bolt on the top end of the engine myself and time it etc.
Let me know what you would suggest if you were in my shoes.

Re: Lt1 Rebuild.
What are your plans? If nothing extreme then I'd save on the forged crank and go Scat9000. Get ahold of www.adperformance.com for some great deals on internals, and just have them shipped to whoever is doing your work for you. Check the classifieds on here as well, find someone reputable, and pay for the block, but have them ship the block or if it's close, maybe pay them to bring the block to whoever is doing the work.
Just curious, why 355 and not 383? If you're buying new parts anyways, why not take advantage of the cubes?

Re: Lt1 Rebuild.
Actually I am thinking of going with the 383. I didnt know that just getting different pistons and changing the stoke changed it to a 383. I was going to purchase a new rotating assembly anyhow. So I guess I might as well do it right.
This is the rotating assembly I was thinking about.
Scat Series 9000 Crankshaft
Scat 5.7" rods (6" or H-beam are available with any kit!)
Probe forged pistons
Wrist pins
Spirolox
Rod hardware
Chevy "383" 3.750 Stroke - Price: $819.00
Also, if I remove the block myself, take the top end off and bring the bottom end of the engine to the machine shop, how much do you think they would charge to rebuild the lower end? A rough guestimate. I am debating between having them assemble it and me doing it myself.
