LT1 mild setup advice

Hi everyone,

There are so many threads about cam and bolt-on setups, I don't want to ask once more the same things, so I just let you know what I have in mind to purchase for my LT1 (limited budget) and you can give your advice :

(Already done : TB bypass, PCM tune, 160° stat.)

air intake : MOROSO CAI
Headers : Pacesetters long tubes (is ORY pipe needed?)
exhaust : custom made straight pipes through resonators (loudmouth 1 type...sound isn't an issue in my country. Also, no emissions regulation )
Stall converter : want to keep it stock
Tune : PCM for less (re) tune

Cam : Would like to go for a LT4 hotcam kit, but it seems quite expensive now on the web compared to what I can get for the price. So I may go for a cam only CC503 (COMP Cams 07-503-8 LT1 LT4 Xtreme Energy 276) and buy other things separately.

RR : COMP Cams 1416-16 Magnum Roller Rockers SB Chevy

Springs, Retainers and locks : need advice ! (limited budget)

Thanks a lot for your advices to come on my setup. What I look for isn't power for power, only a good bump in performance with good drivability manners and fun to drive, considering limited budget.

However, if you have a better idea for the cam setup, feel free to share, except if price is much higher !

Don't hesitate to inform me on eventual secondary parts that would be needed to install that or that part. (like locks, retainers...clamps, bolts, etc)

Robin

That cam is very good for the stock heads. Also with some headers, cat back exhaust, CAI, performance tune, youll have your mild setup. Also if you want here is a good list of cams to look at also. Jsut depends on how mild you want to go. These retail for about 290.00 each. I also dont know what gear you have set up or much at all about your car but if you have an automatic mine had the factory 2.73 gears and i went to the 3.23. These are the best of both worlds due to increased take off and yet still pretty good gas mileage. Good luck man

Lift: .480/.488 dur @ .050 206/212 LSA: 112 Works good in LT1 stock engines, increased power & economy over stock, RPM operating range 1000-5000 part #07-500-8

Lift: .488/.495 dur @ .050 212/218 LSA: 112 Best for increased power in LT1 engines with no modifications, RPM operating range 1200-5200

The price of the camshaft alone is only about 1/4th of the cost it takes to do a cam swap properly. Make sure you budget for valve springs, hardware, rockers, lifters, PCM tune, timing set, etc.

Thanks for advice.

Do I have to change timing set ? My car has only 38500 miles on it.

Actually, cam price will represent almost 50% of the cam swap operation, considering freight and tax to ship it where I am, at the other side of the map...lol. That's why I don't want to forget one thing and order all at the same time.

Below is my final cart from summit : tell me if everything will suit together. Thanks.

COMP Cams 07-503-8 - COMP Cams Xtreme Energy Camshafts
(Camshaft, Hydraulic Roller Tappet, Advertised Duration 276/281, Lift .503/.510, Chevy, LT1/LT4, Each
Part Number: CCA-07-503-8)

COMP Cams 1418-16 - COMP Cams Magnum Steel Roller Tip Rocker Arms
(Rocker Arms, Stud Mount, Roller Tip, Steel, 1.6 Ratio, Fits 3/8 in. Stud, Chevy, Small Block, Set of 16
Part Number: CCA-1418-16)

Crane Cams 10308-1 - Crane Valve Spring and Retainer Kits
(Valve Springs, Retainers, Dual Springs, Steel Retainers, Steel Locks, Single Groove, Kit
Part Number: CRN-10308-1)

Trick Flow Specialties TFS-52400454 - Trick Flow® Valve Seals
(Valve Stem Seals, Viton®, Positive Stop, .531 in. Guide, 11/32 in. Valve Stem, R-Series TFS Heads, Set of 16
Part Number: TFS-52400454)

Did I forget anything ??? (lifters, timing set ?...) If you think it's fine, then I'll process order.

Is that setup ok for 370 hp at the flywheel with mail order tune ? (and aforementionned supporting mods)

Robin

Thanks

I checked with some posts on forums, these parts "should" be ok for swapping the CC503 correctly. I have adoubt about SA or NSA rocker arms...

By the way, the total amounts equals the price of the LT4 hotcam kit...Maybe I forgot parts, cause I heard CC503 swap was more expensive that hotcam swap considering all needed parts. but, if I can go with CC503, should I hesitate ? Also, I have stock converter.

LT4 hotcam is THE budget choice, I know, but I'd like to try the CC503. Just need to know where I go with all this stuff to order to get a fine setup.
