LT1 to LS1 Swap?

If I get the motor, tranny, pcm, and wiring harness... what else would need to be changed in order to do a motor swap?

My LT1 went on me recently and I have no shop nearby that wants to touch a LT1

But I do know a shop that will do a conversion for me. He didn't give me a price or anything... didn't really talk much. But I figured ebay and saw a few good deals for about $3000 that included, motor/tranny/pcm/harness.

Fuel lines need to be changed right? Anything else?

Re: LT1 to LS1 Swap?

at a minimum you will need:
Motor
Trans.
Wireing Harness
EMC
Accessories and brackets
K-member
And access to a good tuner that can remove all the faults you will get...

oh man... tuning? Really?

I had everything covered except the K Member... hmm, didn't think about that one.

I want to keep my LT1, but no one wants to touch the LT1. Man, and funds are so low. I hate life L0L

Re: LT1 to LS1 Swap?

The LS1 fuel system is a "dead-end" type. That means its not "recirculated" like the LT1 system. I think the fuel pressure regulator may even be in the filter. The hi po LS1's are converting to a recirculated system, but that would mean reworking the rails to allow them to flow in series, or in parallel to a return line with an FRP. The LS1 injectors also operate at 58psi, but you could adjust for that with proper injector selection and tuning.

Don't forget to get the complete clutch and hydraulics, along with the T56 and the bell housing.

Where is Cliffside Park, NJ...

And what do you mean noone wants to work on an LT1? Unless you want tehm to do all the work of pulling it and everything but there are still plenty of people in this area that will do that.. Plus if you are in North Jersey go to Golen they will hook you up.

Re: LT1 to LS1 Swap?

So there is no modding necessary for the cowl? I thought the biggest problem was the ls1's distribution system actually fitting under the hood.

If you did the conversion, would all the interior stuff in the car still work?

Sounds like a lot of money. Just seems like it might be a better idea to sell your lt1 car and buy and ls1 car.... Especially if you're paying someone else to do the work.

There are some shops here that don't want to work on LT1's...

Golen? Where is that located?

Cliffside Park is by NYC

Golen is actually in NH but for some reason I thought they were in NJ, sorry... But they have good prices for rebuilds unless you wantt o go all out with performance... Golen normally does things with durability and drivability in mind.

But either way, why not just pull it yourself and take it to a machine shop?

No there is no modding to the cowl. They run coil packs that are on the valve covers so there is no problem on the back. Cowl modification is necessary if you try to run a gen 1 SBC. LS1s are actually physically smaller engines than LT1s. I did a little research a while ago just looking at what it would take someday to convert my car to an LS1. What i found was that the best setup to get is one out of a 98. I think they said that the wiring for the gauges was the same just the pins on the connectors had to be changed. The best way to do this would be find a wrecked car and buy the whole thing so you'd have every piece you would ever need. To the original poster just yank the engine out and take it to a trusted machine shop. An LT1 is just a glorified SBC. I can't believe you would find a shop that would mess with LS1's but not LT1's.

Re: LT1 to LS1 Swap?

What exactly happened to your lt1?

Theres a shop that I usually deal with down in Ocean, NJ. They have done my headers, converter, cam/valvetrain install,gears,..and are going to do my heads. Don't see why they wouldnt be able to help you out. My good friend's dad owns the shop..and they usually do work on porches, ferarris, race cars, etc, but also do muslce cars, small block chevy's, fords, etc. Shouldnt be a problem to fix you up.

Give them a call.
